Rio 8hf pump rated @ 550gph

Wanted to replace my stock pump which is rated somewhere around 265 gph. And the Rio 6hf is rated @ 350gph. So it would be a 80-100 gph upgrade if I went with the 6hf.

My questions are;

Would a 6hf be enough?
Would a 8hf be okay in a bc29 or would it be overkill?

I put a 6HF in my 24 gallon Nanocube and it provided a nice increase in flow. My original return pump was rated at 265gph. The 6hf shoukd be fine for your tank. Just to let you know that the rio is much louder and larger than the stock pump it almost did not fit in my back chamber.

What about temp?

depending on how you choose to direct/deflect the flow...
if you are attached to the sand in the front left corner of your tank... don't think the 8hf is a good choice. i upgraded my BC29 to a 6hf and had enough trouble keeping the sand in one place.
the 6hf is plenty of flow -> even with it y-ed and with a hydor flo.

yes the 6hf is louder than the stock pump... but it is also 100gph more flow and only 15watt (no heat)... helps alot when dealing with the summers in houston.

just my $0.02...
