Ok so I have seen a few member's tanks in the forum and I think the black eggcrate looks waaaaaay cooler than my white. It might even grow less algae (maybe?). Anyway, I have no idea where to find it. I have checked at Lowes and Home Depot. Neither one carries it, however, they don't feel bad taunting me by using it in their specialty lighting displays! Does anyone know a chain store that carries it?

I just painted mine black with Krylon Fusion. Works great!

Yup a couple of coats of the fusion and BAM black eggcrate.

But I do think bulkreefsupply sells black eggcrate if you don't want to paint the white stuff.

Bulk Reef supply sells it, and you can get it at Lowes, but you have order like, $200 worth of it at a time.

i would feel weird using paint within the saltwater. Kyrlon could chit and leave pieces in the water

Krylon Fusion not just any spay paint.

Krylon Fusion is more like spray on plastic. If you spray it properly with a few light coats and let it fully cure for 7 days it should work fine and not chip off. If your not scraping it off with a razor blade it's not coming off.

There is no substitute for Krylon spray paint. You can get it at Wal-Mart

I would not use Krylon fusion inside my tank.Even though some say it is safe. I sprayed some white egg crate black with krylon fusion and used it for a top on my tank and the HQI light faded it to grey in less than a month.
