I'm not a DIY kinda guy (yet) so want to just buy an ATO for my picotope 3g. Any experience or suggestions? Does the little ATO sold by Pico work in this tank? Thanks!

I got an ATO from Bulf Reef. Even though it was a diy, it was easy to set up and it works pretty good. I would definitely suggest it for the money. Good luck with whatever you decide. ATO are definitely worth it.

A good simple set it and forget it setup would be the JBJ ATO. Simple, but expensive.

Eep...the $99 one? Any idea if the one sold by Pico for 30ish bucks works?

it will probably be hard to find an ato for $30 unless you build it yourself. I used the jbj ato for a while, but then sold it because i felt it wasn't worth the cost. now i have a diy top off that i have set on a timer that pressurizes a gatorade container and pumps water up and into the tank. works great and there is no possibility of flooding or burning out a pump.

I just built one from aquahub.com using their double float switch kit for ~$65 (I needed to buy a pump too). I too am not too much of a DIY guy but the instructions they give are very easy to follow... They have them in PDF form on their site so you can read them to see if they are easy enough for you. Its a great setup. The one I ordered has 2 float switches (1 to use as the main and then one to mount a little higher incase the first one fails), a relay, a relay base or whatever, crimps, project box, wal-wart to power the relay and a mold-a-holder to mount the floats. Basically everything other than a pump and tubing. Finished building it in $10, had it installed and running right away. works great!

I use the aquahub.com ATO as well. Piece of cake to do, and the instructions are easy to follow. I only used 1 float switch because I don't have sump. I have it hooked up to an aqualifter. Highly recommend this ATO.
