Noticed when I got home from work today that the extreme edges of the new monti are white. Maybe from the salinity drop from the top-off? Its in the exact same spot where the old monti cap was before the tank went to hell from neglect. dKH is at 13 and still dropping so I dont think its getting burned.

How much did your salinity drop from the top-off? That will stress anything out. Salinity should be kept stable. Why is you dKH so high? A good range is between 8-12 and whatever number you stay at between there should be kept stable as well. Seems like a lot of stress for the monti.

Sounds like growth to me too. I think my monti cap is the heartiest thing in my tank! I've had green star polyps turn it white...removed the white with just a bit of red on it...and the thing is almost all red again. It's a tough cookie smile.gif

My monti cap did the same thing. It was fine at the same spot for a while then all of a sudden it started to bleach. I moved it lower, thinking it was the light. Then I did a water change, dose Brightwell's iodine and 2 part. Soon, its color started to come back brighter than ever.

Wish I could take a pic both my digital cameras are outta commission. I'm wondering what the slick was on the surface of my bucket of RO water i left out that I added to the tank*DOH!*

I had a montipora turn white when it fell down behind my rocks and I left it there for 2 weeks... It's all good now though, about 3 months later.

Ruh-roh... That doesn't sound good. If it's affecting other corals then you might have inadvertently introduced something bad. I mark all of my buckets "FISH TANK ONLY! ABSOLUTELEY NO OTHER USES" (spelled incorrectly of course) to keep that from happening.

You could quick put in some carbon and do another large water change.

Good luck. Fortunately monti caps are pretty hardy corals.

Well I'm thinking my fiancee sprayed something near it, I dont have any carbon and I need to get more R/O any recommedations on good R/O units?

PM AZDesertRat... I think he's pretty knowledgeable on the subject.

Ive heard of those R/O's I think. The monti is getting worse sad.gif Should I move it away from the light? Never had a problem with Monti before.
ajmckay
Still no picture?

If it looks like the white is spreading, you may need to take a dremel or some pliers or something and cut/snap off the bad parts.
kurtl000
Ya its bleaching from the edges in, I moved it down away from the light more. My PH is good, nitrates < 5, 0 phos, calcium within range, temp good, dKH is 14 GRRRRRRRRRRR, salinity is 1.025 I guess its time for a water change cuz the calcium isnt bringing the dKH down. Everything else is doing great in that tank.
fstransk
What is the temp in your tank?
corallineadam
could be extremely fast new growth
my montis do that sometimes, when theyre really happy they grow so fast the margins are whitish...
let us know what happens.

A picture would really help otherwise I would check params again. I had a monti die from the center out for an unknown reason, it stopped dying eventually but looks like hell now. Water change.
kurtl000
Ya I agree time for a water change
