hmm...the only thing I can think of is halymenia or flame algea.. everything else is pretty much dictyota in my tank and that's not what you're describing. check www.reefcleaners.org to see if you find a pic that's close.

nouthing there really wish i had a pic to post one of your pics you had looked just like in my tank is only like a mounth and a week old if that helps any its a teer drop leaf atached by single stem the way it grows is a small orange spot shows up on live rock a day later spot turns into small orange leaf and the day after that leaf turns dark red leaf apears to be flat and almost transparent...
BlueAbyss
Try www.algaebase.org, see if you can find it there... without a picture, it's pretty much impossible to tell what your macroalgae is with any sort of accuracy.

it may take some time for it to develop to get a good idea. there are literally 1000s of species that fit your description

+1 to welcome to NR

Is it flat against the rock? And is it definitely growing? You saying its flat and reddish makes me think of a flat worm...
BlueAbyss
Oh my, that was rude of me blush.gif

welcomesign.gif to NR, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. But there are literally thousands of different kinds of macros that can pop up in a reef tank. I have experienced at least 8 kinds since I started my tank (and since adding rock, frags, etc.), with 2 kinds of rock and over the course of the last 4 months. Some of them I have been able to identify down to the species (ie: Acetabularia schenkii, a tiny mermaid's wineglass that has come and gone and now come again in my tank... it may have a natural life cycle of every couple months). Others have gone unnamed (the one that looks like a weird red brain coral). And still others (the brown Dichtyota spp. that takes on iridescent blue tones in my tank) are regarded as pests by some and as a colorful addition to the reef community by others.
