Full Version: Pistol Shrimp w/video

Let me know if anyone can identify the creature in the following video. I'm assuming that this is a pistol shrimp. I spent the last two weeks hearing a loud pop from the reef and finally was able to lure the little guy out with some seaweed. The first part of the video is inferred/nightshot and then I brought the flashlight out.

If you are referring to the shrimp coming out of the cave, although it is hard to see, it looks like the characteristics of a Pistol. I just had to donate one I acquired with my tank to my local shop because he was killing anything he could snap his claw at. If you hear that popping sound, that is what it is.

You probably can't get an identification from that video more accurate than "pistol shrimp". The size of yours may keep tit from harming anything important.

Yep, it's probably only 3/8 of an inch long. Not sure if it will get any bigger. Some nights I hear it going crazy, but he seems content in it's burrow.
