It's not a large reef but not a Nano either. This is our 2nd tank that I built, it's 36" x 24" x 22". Wanted something smaller but still not too small. First tank was AGA 100gal long and narrow, but cost $50 bucks and a great learning experience.

The tank is 3/8" clear cast with an external overflow using the bean animal silent OF, wanted to have as much room inside and went this way.
The back wall is the foam-rock wall and looks 3-D

I'm using a Sequence 3800 for a closed loop - lots of flow for SPS , the intake is thru 2 6" speaker like screens in the middle and exit in each corner. When I have enough pennies, I'll install an Ocean Motion for the closed loop.
The sump, I built as well is about a 49gal total and running at about 30gals. When the return pump is turned off it fills up pretty good. The intake is in the back left side thru a filter sock and skimmer area (skimmer I build as well) thru 3 baffles then a return area in the back right side. There is a fuge on the right side that flows into the 3rd baffle as well.
The skimmer was gonna to be a MSX160 clone but made some modes to it. The Succie pump with a modded NW pumps into a bubble plate and gets the gunk out. The clear hose go to a muffler that I made to make it nice and quiet.

For lights, I wanted something different- not the typical "hood" and came up with this hanging pendant. The reflectors are diy Lumenarcs. I orginally had the 14k Phoneix 250w DE's in them but wanted to try out the 20k DE Ushio's. Without a part meter, they look the same, nice bright white with some blue.. The ballast used are the old PFO dual HQI's 250w. There are 2 VHO's on either side of the MH's 2x Super Actincs and 2x Super White and powered by the old WorkHorse 7's.

I just added the (DIY) calcium reactor and trying to get it dialed in. The bubble counter is a JBJ and the valve is a Fabco. Oh that the waste collector behind the calcium reactor

Still need to do some aquascaping - just not good at it. There are three main islands under that wall and used the Pond Foam to "glue" them together. Works great after it dries and if you want to change it, just pull it apart. Not the same with epoxy and less drilling with the acrylic rod down the middle.
That big rose was thru a trade for re-building a stand for one of the club members.
