How much Kent M tech should you dose to the tank to get rid of bryopsis? Its a 22 gal

the idea is to raise your Mg in your overall tank water to 1500-1600....

so one would need to know what the Mg in his or her tank is already....

which requires a Mg test kit....

I've never really agreed with the spiking your mag method for getting rid of bryopsis, plus I've heard that it isn't the magnesium that does it but some other kent chemical in there that in large amounts gets rid of bryopsis... Water changes and less feeding tends to work better, otherwise you're just attacking the surface of the problem and it'll keep coming back.

i have benn doin this treatment and almost all the bryopsis is dead after about a week and a half and i actually found that emerald crabs eat it

this just doesnt attack the surface of the problem. it completely rid the tank of the problem. they dont come back.

if going by your method, you would be starving your tank of lights and food for a month before they start to die and no guarantee that they will NOT come back.

I've done this method, and I think it does work.

I used the online 'Reef Calculator' to determine the amount to add, but the other comment was right - you need to know your starting point, so you need a Mg test kit.

When I did it the first time, it quickly knocked back the bryopsis on the sand and rocks, to the point where I was sure it was gone. Some months after the treatment, it came back (strangely, on my Koralia pump and then in the sand). Removing the pump, and most of the bryopsis manually, and then treating for a LONG time (held the 1600 Mg levels for almost 2 months) seems to have done the trick - several months later, and no sign of that stuff.

Good luck!

Keep an eye on your nitrates as the byropsis dies off. If you are not removing the dieing materials the nutrients are being returned to you water. Keep up on water changes and husbandry.

I was just wondering about this... I am in the middle of dosing Tech M to deal with Bryopsis bloom. At 1500 I noticed significant die off. I have a BC 29 and dose 3 capfuls daily. at 22 g I would think 2 1/2 caps would be alright.

I have a 180 gal system, with 250 total water volume because of the refuge and sump. In 5 years my tank has been fine now all of a sudden BRYOPSIS!!..Grief!!..Im dosing tech M for about 1 week. My Mag is at 1550ppm after dosing 1 gallon of this stuff. I bought a second 1 gal bottle and I am now doing that at 1 cup per day. why is my Mg taking so long to get up to 1900ppm??..I also bought a salifert test kit. I should of tested before dosing but i wasnt able to..oh well..anyway the bryopsis is still alive and well with my Mg at 1550..what now? any advise will do..Thanks!

Raise it up to about 1700 and keep it there. It will slowly die off. Sometimes it takes a little while for it to start to go away. You will see the tips of the bryopsis turn white/transparent and it will progress. I know it sounds like it goes away in a day but it can take weeks.

Good luck! It works if it really is byropsis.

Edit: I needed 2 gallons of Kent Magnesium before mine went away. And I only have a 75 gallon tank. You can raise your Mag level by 100ppm per day with also.

I have done alot of reading on this method. Because you have a very large tank I have heard people using BRS or cheaper mag supplements to raise the mag level to the 1700 range and then start dosing the Tech - M to 1800 and maintain with Tech - M. 1700 to 1800 should be the sweet spot where you see it start to go. Make sure to keep your Mag up for at least 2 weeks after its all gone to make sure its gone for good. Otherwise you can have another outbreak.
