Ok guys I am fairly new to this forum, and I had been looking for a desktop nano aquarium for a while now and I finally found one. Eddie from CADLIGHTS is remaking me a version of the older 5 gallon system that they use to sell. It will be here next weekend and I will be posting pictures immediately. I had 1 question for everyone out there reading this...where and what type of live sand and live rock does everyone think is the best? I have used the live sand from bags that you buy at a lfs in the past, but recently I have been told that that wasn't very good sand so I was curious what everyones thoughts on this were.

premiumaquatics.com has great sand that isn't bagged and nice rock too.

I've used the "Aragalive" and dry sand from the pet store as well as Premium Aquatics Live Sand.

Dry sand needs to be rinsed several times to get rid of the dust, and even then it will be cloudy for awhile in your tank.

Aragalive, so I've heard isn't really alive, which isn't a big deal since your Live Rock will liven it up eventually. I like this since it's bagged in water, so not as cloudy. Also it comes in a few different colors/types.

Premium Aquatics was ok, however what I didn't like was there was a lot of broken shell pieces and bits of rock etc in it. It's supposed to be fully cured and alive (the type I bought) while I believe that to be true, I prefer my sand mostly the same size, I guess I'm picky smile.gif

Hope that helps

My sand from premium was really good, no shell pieces, 3 nassarius snails, no rock, and really looks like sand from the ocean.

What type of sand did you purchase exactly? I want something straight from the ocean that might bring some hitchhikers along with it.

This is what I bought. To me it is great and looks like it came from the ocean. Mine had about 3 snail hitchhikers but I only bought 15lbs. The bagged stuff has little to no life in it. This is taken right out of tubs with lots of stuff in the tubs and shipped to you.

What type of corals do you think I could add to this 5 gallon tank under 24W of T5 lighting?

How serious do you think a minor leak in the bottom of a baffle in the middle chamber going into the third chamber of my refugium in my 5 gallon cadlight would be. I noticed it as I was filling with premixed saltwater. It seeped under the bottom corner of the baffle barely noticeable. Should I leave it or drain the tank and place a little bit of silicone there?
