Tank params: 81.4F, 8.4PH, 0 ammonia, nitrite, phosphate; 10 nitrate; 6 dKH.

I was recently on a long trip and a hair algae bloom that was started before I left got out of control with regular feedings by my wife with no water changes or cleaning of the filter pads. So I'm working on that, but that's not my problem here...

I hadn't seen my fromia for a while - he was hidden in amongst the rock. Well today he came out to cruise the glass and he looks a little rough. No spots or anything, but while before he looked kinda fat, now he looks a little less full. I'd read somewhere that these starfish eat microscopic algae and don't do well in tanks that are overrun. He was introduced to my tank months ago and seemed to be thriving until today.

No white spots or anything -- but has anyone experienced an algae bloom having a negative effect on these stars?

thanks

hmmm.. While it's an interesting theory, I haven't heard anything about any ill effects of an algae bloom on fromia starfish..

Sorry I would love to give you more info, but I'm not too familiar with this starfish. Maybe do some more research on it's feeding habits and see if you can find anything else.

Good luck!

Well I can't say I can find much info of use. On wetwebmedia, I found a snippet saying nitrates might be a problem but while I am not happy with 10ppm I've been battling nitrate for a long time so I don't think that is the problem. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.
