Full Version: hermits acting like... hermits?

I am a total n00b, feel free to make fun of me if this is an idiotic question. I searched first, didn't come up with anything, so here goes.

8G BioCube, about a month old. Good quality cured rock from LFS, tank cycled for 2 weeks, my levels all went back to zero. Ph 8.3, Alk in the normal range, water 78 degrees, SG at 1.022, ammonia 0, nitrites .05, nitrates 0.

My 2 red leg hermits, which I got about a week ago, were doing fine, but as of a few days ago they have stopped moving around. One has lost a claw and has been sitting, alive, in the corner of the tank by the heater. The other just sits in the same spot on the LR. I did notice a hitchhiker crab of some kind (tried to ID it but didn't get a good look) in my LR the other day, a little bigger than the biggest hermit, with pointy claws. Could my hermits be afraid of it/is that how the one lost his claw?

Again, sorry if this is an epically retarded question.

You should get an ID for the hitchhiker crab. Hermits will sometimes also attack each other.

Your specific gravity is a little low. Aim for 1.025-1.026 (evaporation is the best method).

get the hitchhiker out of the tank now
