about how many frag plugs (little ones that are about 1" in diam) can one fit in an area of egg crate that is about 18"x10" ?

You pretty much answered that already. 10"x24" = space for 240x1" diameter plugs. Assuming you want some frags on plugs as well it would be less, depending on the fize of the frags. I'd say you could get away with 140-160 frags if they aren't too big. I think.

That kind of reminded me of one of those math questions on the SAT. I just tried to come up with the simplest answer. So, if we know 240 is the max then you could say it with hold quite a few even with space in between.

If they are plugs and not just discs though ~100 for 10x18 and ~140 for 10x24 depending on which edges you can hang off a little. The squares of eggcrate are 5/8" center to center so most plugs can only be on 1.25" spacings.
