i seem to be have a small grass problem,

what can i do to get rid of it?

skimlessinseattle
What are your current levels of nitrates and phosphates? Unwanted algae growth often is the result of these nutrients being in excess. Do you have any export systems in place such as a skimmer or refugium with macro algae? What do you currently have in place for algae grazing?

Looks like its time to go nudie

Its a real b***h to get rid of and Its pretty long and I have never had great success getting the CUC to munch on the longer stuff.

Has the look but it's hard to tell. I also suggest posting a more focused picture, and listing those parameters mentioned above. Also, knowing your magnesium would be helpful too.

Not to run this thread off topic, but what is that coral/thing in the right foreground of this pic? I just saw the same thing at my LFS and they had no ID...

@ the algae, it looks like bryopsis. If it is, I'd check out the magnesium treatments.

Sorry it took so long, i went to Reef-a-palooza today.

Here are my tank specs

Cal 520
PH 8.4
PO 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Ammonia 0
Salinity 1.026
Temp 78.2
My mag test has leaked and dried up,
and nobody at the show today had any mag test kits,
so i'll have to have the lfs do it for me tomorrow.

I have both a Fuge full of pods and a skimmer.

And here are aome closer pics.

And those are called Snake Polups

do a water change take out what rock u can scrub with a toothbrush. scrub the rocks in a bucket in the water u just took out of the tank. that worked for me... have heard raising mag levels helps and vodka dosing also but i like to scrub it to death makes me feel better the hate for algae runs deep.

I so agree
skimlessinseattle
Do you have macro growing in your fuge? You only mentioned pods and a skimmer in there.

No one at the Reef-a-palooza had Mg kits?! ohmy.gif

I would attempt to get a confirmation on the suspected bryopsis. If it is bryopsis, you should consider treatment through elevating Mg levels. Many here have successfully utilized this method.

looks like bryopsis. i just went through a month of hell with it. i did the Mg elevation and it actually works! i used the Tech M. i have a 10g and dosed 15ml per day for the month. no water change during that time. nothing died off except the bryopsis...it turned white and just disintegrated. my coralline algae bloomed tho. heh. did a water change this weekend and all is well. HTH

Def Bryopsis. Use Kent, Tech M Magnesium works!!!

I hear Brightwell Magnesion works just as well.

Posted link just so you know what the bottle looks like in the store if they carry it.
RyanR1212
first get madddd snails. second do a lot of water changes... that should be it

also if your lights are old.. they may be out of spectrum and that could be why the growth is so out of control
lilmonster
I had been doing 20gl water changes twice a week before i got sick, (100gl sys)
at the time my cal was at 660 and got it back down to 520.

i actually just installed new lights just before it started,
so I was thinking that the new lights had exited it to start growing.

and snails don't seem to touch it.

i did manage to get a couple of rocks out and used a toothbrush on them,
I'll just wait and see if it grows back there.
NYAquatic
sea hares will eat it
When it's gone, you'd need to find a new home for the sea hare.
