I'm setting up a new anemone/clownfish tank. It's a 24x24x18 custom 1/2" acrylic tank. I have 4 RBTA, 1 GBTA, and 2 pink tips.
Here is a pic of the tank:
http://www.reeftools.com/live/imcosmokramer/albums/5/23Right now, I have 4 clownfish in a 55 with a scopas tang and a damsel (my first fish ever, so let it go!!).
Can I move all 4 clowns to the new tank? or is that to small? In the 55, they paired up into two pairs, and had no problems, bc there were so many anemones. Just looking for thoughts. (tang and damsel will go elsewhere).
Today I moved over two anemones. A rose bubble tip anemone, and a green bubble tip with pink tips. I also turned one rock around, and pointed it out, rather than in. I think I like the aquascaping... not sure.
Here is the RBTA

The green with pink tips

And a full tank shot
http://www.reeftools.com/live/imcosmokramer/albums/5/68I had to turn off the vortech when I added the anemones, to give them a chance to attach. I left the tank alone for about 20 minutes, came back, and they were there, attached and happy. Turned the light on, vortech on, and off I went. The skimmer is still shaky, I'll have to keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Everything still looks good today, so tomorrow I'll be bringing more anemones over.

The gallonage difference between this and your 55 isn't that great, and if they stayed peaceful in the 55 you should have no issues, plus 4 sq ft of surface area is pretty good.
I'd be more worried about the anemones, if 1 goes, everything does.

i just started a 24x24x18 that was going to be the same thing, I later changed my mind.
I think I am just sticking to 2 clowns and one anemone but who knows
looking forward to see how this turns out

Well, this tank is plumbed into a larger system, so the overall volume of water is higher than the 55. We'll see what happens. As far as the anemones, you mean that if one dies, everything will die? I've had several of them die in the other tank and have been fine. Maybe I was "lucky"

Tell me what you mean.

Good move. Nems might not survive the instability of a new tank.

Mike,
No chance. They would have been dead by now for sure. My only concern about this tank/setup is the flow. We'll see if the MP40W works, and if not, I'll have to go with 2 10's or 20's.

Nice to see a familiar "face". Welcome to NR. Remember you bought an RBTA and two clowns from me last year from a 50 I took down. Your new tank looks awesome - I recall seeing a thread about it on c-sea's forum. I have a bit of a bta addiction myself so I'll be following along. Good Luck.

Added 5 more nems, but turned the lights off to let them acclimate.

So I added 5 more anemones to the tank today. 3 RBTA's, 1 GBTA, and another GBTA with pink tips. Took about 15 minutes for them to attach and look happy, then I started taking pictures.

The tank was made locally by a friend of mine.
What do you guys think about me moving the vortech to the back panel?

Everything made it through the night. The large anemone in the front decided to go for a walk, and is now on the bottom left.

What do you guys think of adding rics to the tank? or keep it only nems?

I say go for the rics!
They look very cool and nem like.

sweet tank! I was wondering, does that cover on the mp10 effect the flow too much? thinking about using one myself one day

Lando - that is an MP40W. If you don't clean it, it will get packed with "stuff", but it is much safer for a nem tank. On my other tank, I did not use the cover.

OK, not banggais in the tank. After a short conversation with a friend, decided it would be certain death to them. Low activity fish, small tank, lots of nems = no good. Search for clownfish continues.

They're cheap fish, readily available, hearty as hell, and reef safe. Just don't add other fish

so basically, just throw 10 chromis in there? lol.
moto - I have a 250 W DE XM 15K which is a sweet bulb. I might go to a 20K XM soon though, for the color.
Maybe I'll just do a nem and snail tank.

that's a good call!!
I made some changes to the tank 2 days ago and forgot to post. I had the MP30 in the center of the left pane. Not it is in the back of the right tank, and creates a circular flow pattern in the tank. I can turn it up a lot more, as it is not pointed at any of the nems. This gives me more flow without bothering the nems.

So I initially had the MP40W on the left side of the tank, in the center of the pane. The problem was that I couldn't turn it on very high, because it was pointed at the rock structure and would blast the anemones. A friend who came over had suggested moving it, and now it is on the right pane, almost against the back wall. What this did, was create circular flow in the tank. The flow is now around the rock structure. This has done a few great things.
1. it allowed me to turn the flow WAY up by comperison. Before, it was all the way down. Although, I don't really want HIGH flow, it's nice to get movement in the tank.
2. It moved the pump pretty much out of view.
3. The flow pattern discourages the nems from settling on the back of the rockscape, and brings them more to the front.
Here are some pics:

It was in the box. I don't know if the mp10's ship out with them...but I would think that they would. Did you check?

Oh, yeah now come to think of it I did see some foam stuff that was folded up in half..guess that must be it. I'll have to dig it out of the basement tonight. How often do you have to clean it? Wish I would've have known soon cause my bta could have been saved along with 2 cleaner shrimps as well.

I take it out once a week. You'll see two things. It'll turn brown and the flow will be reduced. It takes all of about 10 seconds to run it under cold water, and we're back in business. I make sure to turn the pump off when I remove it.
oops.. Yes, that's it. It was folded in half:
Reesies
Nov 7 2009, 08:01 PM
By the way, do you notice any reduced flow with it on? I run 80% reef crest so should I expect to bump it up to 100%?
