Has any one tryed slowly acclimating FW mollys and FW algea eaters into a reef tank to eat the algea?

Sailfin Mollies if acclimated properly do a great job

That's why people have a CUC with lots of snails. Hair algae is a microalgae; macroalgae is not eaten except by larger fish like tangs. Tangs are commonly used in large tanks.

most do manual removal (scrub rocks, pick the larger stuff off), nutrient control, and snails to control it.

there is talk of crabs and what not, but i dont trust even little hermits...an emerald crab can go from vegan to carnivore when it wants to.....

if people had luck with mollys in a REEF tank CUC im sure we would have see alot more of them...

after you get most of it out, you need to get your water quailty in check, then the snails will keep it from getting too bad....

a pic of said tank would help ID problem algea.....

worst case scenario.... boiling it to kill the pest off, ...

OK, I've seen mollies in some salt tanks but Plecos? I didn't think they could go full salt.

I don't think so either for longer periods of time. They have them in the Port Saint Lucie river by the thousands upstream, but the further south you go the more floatin PLecos. When they damn the FW, you literally can see them floating up as high tide and additional salinity come in. Would be cool to know though...
