I ordered a yasha goby and candy stripe pistol shrimp... and only got the pistol shrimp in. The vendor is unsure if he can ship me a yasha, but I have the pistol in a cup in my tank. If I get a dracula goby, will it pair up with the candy stripe pistol?

Thanks!

Probably. Most of the gobies and shrimps aren't actually all that picky when it comes right down to it, and they're happier with a symbiote. A.randalli (the candystripe pistol shrimp) is the dracula goby's natural partner anyway.

If you're putting them into an established tank, you might want to get them partnered up first- they don't move very far from their homes- even less when they don't have a partner-, and might have a hard time finding each other. If you've got some way to isolate them together, like a breeding box or bag, I'd put them together for a day or so before releasing them into the tank

The pistol is isolated in a cup already, so when I add a fish it goes straight to the cup. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the advice!

My lfs has a Dracula goby but man are they expensive. I think they were going for over 100 bucks. That would be a nice combo.

Oww... If I can get it around 80 I will buy it but otherwise I will probably just get a yasha.

Yasha's are really pretty (I've got one in my tank), but they're very shy- I don't see mine (or her shrimp) for days at a time, occasionally for a week or more, and when I do see her, it's usually not for very long at a time.

If you like the dracula gobies, you might consider an S. nematodes- they have a bunch of common names, hi fin red (or black) banded goby, yellow-faced prawn goby, filament-finned prawn goby, blackray shrimp goby, etc, etc. They look a fair amount like a dracula, but are about 2/3 the size- and about 1/3 the price. They're much more active and social than the Yasha. Mine (yeah, I have 2 different shrimp-goby pairs in one 70-gal tank) is out and about pretty much all day every day, from when the lights go on until they go off. Here's a video that shows what they look like. Mine does that mouth gaping thing whenever another fish comes near the shrimp hole, and even nips at my other fish and hermit crabs.

make sure you cover the top of your tank
