YES!!! biggrin.gif

Just wondering, are you gonna cycle it with tank water from your other tank?
cptbjorn
I'm thinking about ordering some bumper sticker sized picotope stickers, I think it would be cool if the logo went across the entire length of the tank on the bottom and a couple inches tall. Let me know if you want one biggrin.gif
spankyleatherlips
I was thinking about using water from my tank to help cycle and was hoping to go to the city to find a piece of LR this w/e. Decided to go with the black sand this time.

Ok so here it is thus far. I know that my LR is kinda lame but I really do not want my pico to be stocked with a whole lot of corals. My first thought was a dwarf seahorse tank (Poor Jacobnano he had to get a bazillion PM's from me, bless his heart) So after much thought I decided against the dwarf seahorse tank due to my work as a Vet Tech and my work with Doxie Rescue. Those lil buggers are some serious work. So then I decided since I have my 24 gallon JBJ stocked with all the stuff I love, my next lil tank would be just LR a few ric splits from my main tank, a few zoa and I would leave the rest open for some sexy shrimp, bumblebee shrimp and a pom pom. (I don't think I can have all 3 types, but I have awhile to decide)
I went to the LFS in the big city and scraped the bottom of the barrel for the tiny rock. Had a bird nest skeleton (yes I killed it when I switched to 150 w from PC stock lighting) So when I took the new tiny LR from the box and placed it in my tank there was a stray green ric and a broken zoa of some kind. Looks blue. Then there was a tiny piece of rubble with coraline and a tiny green baby ric the size of a pupil.

I am still undecided as to my livestock as I love all the sexy shrimp, bumblebee shrimp and the pom pom.
I have awhile to make up my mind on that as the tank is still cycling.

Any suggestions would be helpful
Thank you
Spanky

Why yes!!!! I'm a Hoosier and I spend my days playing in cow, horse, pig, goat, dog, and cat manure.
(sometimes I remember to wash my hand before I cook dinner)

No really, I want to be able to see the little creatures and not have them hide so much in the corals.
Is that a mistake? Seriously am I setting myself up for failure with not too much cover for the lil feezers?
RyanR1212
what lights do you have on that pico??? leds???
spankyleatherlips
No LED's, just the stock light from the jbj pico
Nemo Niblets
It sounds fine, did you get a AC 70 fuge and follow all of El Fab's guide? I understand wanting to watch the sexies.
spankyleatherlips
moved more rics into the pico. I bought 2 sexies (wanted 3 but will get 1 later) bought a feather duster, a small candy and some kinda coral I have no idea what it is, it's located next to the green zoa on the right. I replaced the stock filter with an AC70. I also bought a small live plant and my tank is full of micro stars/brittles. I plan on moving a purple zoa on top of the boulder looking rock.

Does anyone know if I can add 2 bumblebee shrimp and 1 pom pom crab. that's all the livestock I want. Just don't know if it's a good mix.

3 sexies
2 bumbles
1 pom pom
2 cerinths medium
3 cerinths dwarves
3 nassarius small

will this work?
spankyleatherlips
added purple zoa from 24 gal.

The Rics look really good.

Is that a Walmart Heater?
badfish816
i love it. gena said her sexies ate coral. how are your's doing? i'm starting to think that it is a crap shoot with those guys.

How does the stock 9w light seem to be working for easy softies. I am considering getting a picotope for a display fuge w/ Cheato and a few easy softies (plumbed into the main display.) I have been wondering if I can get by with the std 9w light or if I should try and find someone to sell me their 1 x 18" Current USA Satellite.

It's a Walmart heater, ohmy.gif As far as the stock lighting goes the rics are doing just fine they are the splits from my 24 gal rics I bought from Coral Morph, the zoa are open but they came from my 24 gal with 150w halide. I just put the zoa in so I will see how they adjust to the stock 9w light. (someday I hope to get a better light) If the zoa do not thrive, I will place them back in my other tank. The sexies don't seem to be bothering the corals but I have only had them for 2 days. I fed them a tiny mix of cyclopeze and mysis and some spectrem (sp) tiny pellet food laced with essential fatty acid and vitamins. I am supposed to get the bumbles and pom pom (s) sometime this week. BTW, believe it or not, the walmart Tetra 2-25 gal heater keeps a steady temp of 77 degrees.

I am thinking about making a small feeding trough placed in the sand bed so as to keep the frozen food drift to a minimum so as not to raise the nitrates too much. I have tiny plastic blood tubes at work that have a plastic cap. If I drill small holes down one side, I could place the food inside and let it release slowly. It would be easy to remove and clean.

That's my plan!!!! Let me know what you think about the feeding trough.

it takes experiementing to find out. sounds good in theory. let me know if it works out. it it works then i will just train my corals to eat out of it too. then poop by the filter intake...lol
spankyleatherlips
I was going to train the shrimps and crab to eat from the tube and then pull it out of the tank after chow time was over. I already have a litter pan in the corner by the filter intake wink.gif
gena
Hey..I'm here smile.gif Very nice tank! Love the rics too! As far as the sexies...I think your larger polyps will be just fine. My one sexy only messes with the small polyp zoas. You might have trouble with the small patch laying flat on the sand...or maybe not at all fingersx01.gif

2 pom pom
1 bumble bee shrimp
2 sexies
lots and lots of microbrittle stars. Big one in the zoa YIKES!!!!!
spankyleatherlips
Ok, so I've been messing around with the pico. Doing w/c and top offs. Everything thus far is doing wonderful. My pom pom crabs, bumblebee shrimp and sexies are eating well and adjusting just fine.
I added more zoa from my 24 to fill in the bare spots. (Gives me an excuse to replenish the 24 gal with new stuff)

New pictures...........

lookin good. i'm diggin the ric garden.
spankyleatherlips
Can't find my pom-poms. Last night one molted so I removed the shell. I saw both last night before going to bed. this morning the other molted so I removed the shell and now I can't find either one.
Geezle do the cannibolize each other in the soft shell stage much like we humans do to them?

My 2 sexies and bumblebee shrimp are fine.

I hope they are both in safe hiding places until the shells harden.
spankyleatherlips
found 1 hiding in the purple zoa. Now I need to find the other.

WOW I don't check out your thread for a short time, and it is really starting to look great!

You may have said, but I liked looking at the pictures, but where did you get all of that from? It looks like coral morphologic stuff haha.
spankyleatherlips
I <3 coralmorph. Most came from my 24 gallon (which now looks naked)
thanks Jacob, I just hope I find my other pom pom
Jacobnano
Ohh ok. Well it is really looking great!

See if it has buried itself underneath a frag of zoa, or see if it is hiding in between the polyps of the zoa/palys. Hope that helps lol
badfish816
any updates man?
