Should you have your lights on during a cycle, or is it ok to have your lights off?
Arc Katana
It really doesn't matter a whole ton - some folks won't turn it on just so they don't have to deal with any possible algae. Unless you've got some live rock that has coral/macro algae/ anything that really needs light to live, you can leave it off.

You can leave the lights on when you're in the room if you like - a couple hours a day won't hurt anything.
