Not sure. Depends on how we feel about dimming control.

Please, please, please - dimming controls yes!!!!! Separate controls for blue/white including power would be even better!
evilc66
Of course, that's the way we would do it, but the legal implications are what's holding us back.
evilc66
Well, the tank is not doing so hot right now.

I ended up replacing the tank after the original acrylic tank developed a leak from what seemed like too much stress from the front panel bowing too much. Not Deli's fault, as my tank was one of the very first tanks he ever built. Anyway, Deli, being the cool guy that he is, hooked me up with a new glass tank (this thing is a work of art). So anyway, I didn't think that the sandbed would have been mature enough to create issues when I transfered it, but it did. Tank started crashing, so corals got pulled, but a lot of the snails started dying. Did you know that decaying snails smell like poop (literally) in open air? Not a fun smell.

So the tank is cycling again, and I have carbon going and water changes going every few days to soft cycle it. Kinda bummed, but looking forward to a fresh start.
schg
ohmy.gif That sucks! New tanks are great though, and a fresh start is always fun.
n0rk
That's pretty heavy, man. Sucks, but at the same time it's always good to get a fresh start at things. Gonna do anything different this time or stick to the same MO? smile.gif
evilc66
Not much different. Adding a little more rock this time. Nitrates are slowly coming down.
badfish816
keeps the excitement
pismo_reefer
bummer...

new start should be fun.tho.
evilc66
Still waiting for levels to come down. Starting to get a diatom bloom again. I'm going to be doing a few water changes over the next few days to see if I can get this cycle over with.
Weetabix7
Well that's annoying....
GL with the restart.

man sorry to hear that Evil, your tanks was one of my favorites, but im sure the new version will be just as good if not better, any ideas on which direction you want to take it? same as last time?
Angelynn
Oh No evil! Sorry to hear about your tank! Hopefully you will get things back to normal soon. i almost went with this tank for my new born child but anyways keep us posted! i enjoyed all your work and what you have done for NR. thanks!

GL with the restart.

It's a little annoying. It would be worse if I had more in the tank. I hadn't added that much, so it wasn't that much of a heartbreak to tear it down. Anyway, I have a spiffy new glass one which is way better than the old acrylic. I can see why Deli dropped the acrylic line. He does such a good job with glass.

The old tank won't go to waste though. I'm going to clean it up, brace the top of the front panel, and fix the leak. I'm thinking of giving it to a friend that wants to get into reefing, but is on a tight budget for equipment. I have most of what he needs. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that I would be allowed to start another tank laugh.gif

No real changes. Definitely want to keep more sps in this one, and I have the light to do it.

Congrats on the kiddo. Don't let what happened to mine put you off these great tanks. Mine was an original acrylic that Deli isn't even selling any more. Any new tanks will be all glass and won't have this problem.

It will live again, just a little different smile.gif

Evil was nice enough to be my test monkey laugh.gif
Kudos to all the guys that do acrylic tanks.. It ain't easy.

No acrylic tanks anymore just glass. Way better in many many ways!
Then again I am a bit bias. tongue.gif
badfish816
how's the lights coming along?
evilc66
Haven't done the second proto yet. Still waiting for the new heatsink to be cut.
badfish816
i just read on another forum that someone is wanting advice comparing your par38 to a maxspect. i think you are gettin some attention.
evilc66
Just a little smile.gif I had The Grim Reefer over on RC (T5 guru himself) asking about them.

check this floor lamp out $80 aussie dollars. It slides up and down. I can always cut back a bit to make it looks a bit less intrusive, once i find the desired height. I will take the shade off for heat issues. But it does look good with it on. Whatcha reckon?

I got my lamp (sweet..... I took a quick pic . I couldnt work out how to rotate it. Anyway i have finished cycling now. I am going to ad some crew soon. Lamp is great just trying to work out the holder side of things. I think there is enough light for anything i want to keep. Thank for all your hard work to get the light to this stage. So the average reefer can get some decent light .cheers. ps do you think the light is to close,it about 5 inches away

badfish816
Grim Reefer...that's impressive.
evilc66
Looking good.

We had similar ideas on using a floor lamp to hold Evilc's PAR38 bulb . . . biggrin.gif

Any pictures of the glass tank?
evilc66
No. Looks just like the acrylic one smile.gif

evilc66
laugh.gif We need to get Chris to add that one to the collection. I would use that all the time.
Riley007
Tank looks great as does the light fixture.

As for the patent issues, couldn't you design the light as a dimming unit for both white and blue but ship it non-dimming.

A few parts and the DIY'ers can get a fully functioning system.

Of course it depends on how the guts all go together but gets you around the lawyers for now.

evilc66
There may be some ways around the issue like you mentioned, but we have to weigh the options.

No real updates on the tank, as I've been letting it run it's course while I have been working on new stuff. The cycle seems over, and a new CUC is starting to get to work. I had a strange white/clear jelly looking substance over most of my rockwork for a few weeks, but it disapeared over the weekend while at Reefstock.

Speaking of Reefstock, we showed of the latest prototypes of my pico fixture

Looks pretty hot in black right? Looks like there is going to be two versions. One running at 350mA and another running at 700mA. This will give two options for light levels. At 350mA it will be good for a mixed reef. At 700mA it will be good for sps heavy setups. The different mounts should work for a good number of different tanks.

While out there, we stopped by Jake Adams of Reefbuilders house and we snapped some pics of it over his 12" ADA cube tank.

I want!

Looks great! Love the lamp in black. Count me in for a setup once you've got things sorted. I'm still playing around with my Fluval Edge setup. I'll be posting things shortly.

How do you keep the water from not pouring out?
wink.gif

-----------------------------------------

Love the amount of life you have in the tank. Colors are wonderful (no doubt due to your awesome lights). Looks really cool.
evilc66
Not my tank, but still equally cool. That belongs to Jake Adams of Reefbuilders.
diddy02
Any word on the pico setup Evil? It does look hot in black and will look amazing on my JBJ Pico.
evilc66
No firm ETA, but we are working hard on getting the last details sorted. Shouldn't be too much longer.
Riley007
Can't wait to get my hands on the finished product!

Obsessed Reefer
So I've been trying to figure out what tank to buy to get back into the hobby, and I'm pretty sure I've fallen in love, both with the tank, but the lighting system. I always used to love bringing back threads from the past, granted 2 months isn't that old, when I know you run a busy life, but any updates on the tank and lights?
evilc66
Pre-orders for the lights are starting to ship, and all future orders will ship fairly quickly, depending on how we can batch the anodizing.

Tank is looking better. I have a few corals in that are doing well. I just started changing over to ESV B-Ionic salt, and I'm hoping that will give me some nice results. This stuff really does mix in 10 minutes flat. I'll get some pictures up soon.

Hey Evil!

Just bought your 12.3 Pico Light from nanocustoms, (Presale), I'm sure by your last post they are being shipped out immediately?

And 250w Par! thanks for a great product. All the best, and continued success

Johnnyreef9
I have a pico 3gallon jbj tank and im wondering if i bought 2 ecoxotic Stunner LED Strips the all blue and blue and white strips would be enough for haveing SPS and LPS corals

do you have any other suggestions not looking to spend a crap load of MONEYYY$$$........
.Newman.
any updated pics of this tank evil?
DHaut
Do you have a FTS with the picolamp on the cuda?
evilc66
Well, this thread has been neglected. The poor tank has not been happy since it was switched over from the original acrylic version. It's much more stable than it used to be, but there is still some algae issues that seem to not go away. It's brown slime algae (not cyano) that comes back after a few days after syphoning it out. Corals seem to be ok, for the few that are in there, except for 5 heads of duncan coral that melted away within 24 hours. Wasn't happy about that. If things don't improve soon, I'll just take the corals out and tear it down and start fresh. Might do that once I get my Manta 15 in.

Sweet! cool.gif
DHaut
So what's the deal? Nutrients?
.Newman.
can we get a pic of the slime algae? are you sure its not cyano? if its some type of cyano, you can beat it easily with time, if its dyno then the tank may need what you mentioned..
evilc66
Definitely not cyano. Had that before. Dino, maybe. It does seem to recede with the lights out. The filtration is running Chemi-Pure Elite right now. Might try another blackout and see where that gets me. I think some of the recent issues was contributed by some stray lead balls from the glass thermometer that broke a while back. I found two straglers that I didn't get during cleanup, but they have been out of the tank for months.
DHaut
you could run some cuprisorb if you think metals are the issue.
evilc66
Might be worth a look. I may still have some lead hiding somewhere in the tank causing problems. I've gone through the back chambers pretty thoroughly already, but who knows. I have a bag of sand in the garage, unopened. It's only got 2lbs of rock in it, so I may just pull all the corals out and put them in the frag tank while I get it up and running with new sand and rock. Hmm. Two tanks cycling within a week or two of each other.
DHaut
With a tank that small, it should be simple to just reboot. Get a couple pieces of new dry rock and you should be good to go.
evilc66
Yup. Might do that this weekend.
