setting up a 15 gal. sump/refugium spliting it so 8 gal is refugium other half is for return so i have enough for daily evap and a little wiggle room .was wondering if a bubble trap is needed? and how deep of a sand bed i should run in it . thanks for any help

It depends on your setup. There are many examples of successful sumps that you can check out in peoples threads. You can also check out the DIY section for other people's builds.
