My Picasso pair spawned early this morning. I had been expecting them to lay for about a week so it was good to see it happen. Of course, being as that this is the first time either of these fish have spawned, they both ate the eggs very quickly. What is interesting however is that the female seems to be re-hydrating and they are still cleaning a lot...I won't be surprised if I wake up and find another nest. Anyway, I am expecting them to eat the first few spawns until they get it right, then I will start raising them.
The female of this pair is WC from Bali, purchased in March 09' and the male is of unknown origins (although I still suspect ORA until proven otherwise...).
Here is a video of the pair this morning. Sorry for the bad quality, it was from my cell phone. You can see them picking at the eggs/cleaning.

Thanks much! I am pretty stoked. I am trying to develop my "own" strain of Picasso, by which I mean start with WC fish out cross etc. Unfortunately, the only Picassos out there aside from the ones ORA are producing are Picassos that came from ORA.
I am hoping to set my own strain.
It will be exciting to see the babies.

I cant wait to see what markings the wild caught female and that picasso make. It will beinteresting to see and i guarantee you one thing they are in the best hands as far as raising them goes. I have known colby for about a year and i have to say i have spoken to many Johnathan is very good at what he does and very inteliegnt but i thought my passion for clownfish was insane Colby has me beat thats for sure. If anyone deserves to have some potentially sick fish its def Colby

USF and Christos, thank you for the compliments, but lets stick to the original post.
Colby, do you have any idea what generation your ORA male is? If not, what is his age. I am extremely interested to see how strong the "Picasso gene" is in a true wild caught picasso. Please don't hesitate to show the progress of development in the patterns. If you don't have access to a good camera, I think I heard once you are still in college, take pictures with the help of a specimen scope. That way you don't smuch any larvae and/or fry under a slide.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
I do not know what generation my male is, and as I said I do not even know for sure that he is ORA. My guess is that he is, because he really looks like it...however he did not come from ORA, and the place I got him from said he was WC and ORA has never sold there...so it is a mystery.
I will absolutely make a developmental series, I agree it will be fun to watch.
I will keep everyone updated!

Just an update, my female is hydrating again and the pair are cleaning like cray in preparation for the next spawn. I will try and get a better camera and make a better video this time.

Congrats on the spawn! Question: How's your fry tank set up? I have a Breeding pair ( Female Black Onyx/Male ORA mis-bar perc's) and have spawned consistantly for 3 months and I haven't been able to raise one past 6-7 days. I've tried a lot of different things and all seem to fail for me. Hopefully you can do better than I have! Again congrats, I love picasso's too.

Thanks Llewos!
I typically raise the fry in anything from a 5 gallon tank to a 200 gallion tub. At the moment the larval and Growout systems are going to be ten gallon tanks, albeit a bit modified. I do have a few techniques I employ to get better color and finnage...
I also do not keep as many fish per tank as is possible, i.e. 800 larva in 5 gallons of water. It can be done, however I do not recommend it if you want high quality fish. I have done the raise as many fish as you can thing, but these days I am focusing solely on quality.
If you have questions or need help feel free to ask, and congrats on your pair spawning! I do apologize in advance if it takes me a little bit to get back to you, I am real busy right now...
