Pink skunks are cool but don't really act like clowns unless they have an anemone. I'd go Clarkii since I doubt you'll have an anemone with 8xPCs.
Eiblii or Potters, both pretty.

so how should I stock my tank? Lots of pairs of things would be neat - mated pairs of gobies/clowns are easy to come by and it's a unique thing you don't always see in tanks. Also, I laughed at all your scientific names.
3x pajama cardinals If 2 pair off, they might get aggresive towards the third wheel.
1x tang (or lamarck's angel?) lol tangs
1x halichoeres sp.
1x pseudocheilinus sp. Six line, or something bigger?
2x clowns (pink skunks? clarkiis?)
1x dragonet Mated pair would be cool
1x centropyge (eiblii? potteri?)
1x jawfish Bluespotted with barnacle home all the way.
how many fish can I put in this tank anyway? lol
As many as your little heart desires.

sowwy, it was an impulse buy - and the ginger's money.

and yeah, he's an engineer; I have a feeling after the plumbing is done he'll take very little interest in the tank save enjoying the view from the kitchen.

ehh its ok, we'll probably sell it to someone local
The tank D posted pictures of is of a similar size. I don't know the full stock list but I can find it out for you if you would like. I know there were a pair of dragonets, some chromis, cardinals, a tang or two, clowns, bar gobies, and I don't remember what else, but there were a lot of fish.

clarkii's are waaay aggressive, even if added last I've seen them thrash a lot of fish and wouldn't house them with anything else. maybe a small trigger as long as its not a O. Niger.
ive never seen cardinals of any kind act aggressively.
Ultimately is Jer's choice and he doesn't even usually stick to his original ideas anyways.

you can keep anthias, all sorts of wrasses, maybe a genicanthus.
you need size appropriate fish--big(ger) fishes for big tanks.

schools work too.

1" drains. flex? rigid?
3/4" return, vinyl (because that's the fitting which came with the pump, lol).
hopefully I'll get baffles in the sump, as well. I haven't decided between a skimmer->refugium->return setup or a skimmer->return<-refugium set up. decisions, decisions...

Go with flex on the drainline so you have freedom to orient it if you are having surge or flow issues. As for the return, I think you should go skimmer->return<-refugium. More raw water for the fuge and you can control the flow through it independantly as well.

sweet. just got back. I decided to hard plumb the return, since I didn't feel like tracking down a 3/4" FPT x 3/4" barb. I also picked up a couple contractor packs of elbows and tees to make supports for the rock. it's REALLY dense, and I just can't stomach displacing half the water in the tank for the sake of height.
the supports (and painting the back of the tank) will also give me something to do till I get a chance to drive across town and get the 40g for the sump. can't plumb the return till I know where the pump is going, lol. but other than the 40g, some acrylic sheets and silicone, I have everything I need to set this baby up!

my rock pile. there must be close to 400lbs of rock there, lol. the largest pieces on the far end are close to 2ft long. also, I was seriously tempted to drain my pool and use that pump for the tank, lol:

closeup, showing some shapes. they still need to be cleaned off, the more I spray em with the hose the more nooks and crannies show up:

yeah, but the largesse of the gift tells me that someone is trying to create an illusion of being madly in love where none really exists.

It's just how I think.
Pah when I bought Matt a piano for his birthday one year (at a cost roughly 15-20x what we normally spend on birthday gifts for each other) I wasn't saying "I don't really love you but here maybe this will make you think I do." I was saying, "I know you'll absolutely love this gift and I don't care how much I have to sacrifice to give it to you."

There's ~4" of PVC glued into the bulkhead, leaving 2½" or so exposed, then the hose is held onto that with a hose-clamp.
