I just got my bc14 yesterday and it's new model.
there is something change with old model.

the first thing is the back wall is higher than the old model and there will be no fish jump to the back chamber anymore.

the second is there is a window at the back of the tank, and no need to scratch the paint off for fuge light.
BTW, I am gonna use underwater lights anyway, so maybe I need to cover it up...... cool.gif

the third thing is a paint. I read a lot of review saying I need to push down hard to get rid of the false floor in chamber 1. So I push down, and it's didn't move a bit. and then I keep pushing it, no luck.
So I find a wood spoon and hammering it down, no luck either, and I think I might broken the spoon.

Finally, I find my diving knife with a broad blade and hammer it down through the silicone, when the knife it going down, i just pry the knife to loosen the bond of silicone. When I took off the false floor, I realized there is
no way to push it down to get ride of it. There is 2 blocks at the both side of the wall to hold the false floor.
the false floor is just sit on it with silicone. IMO, there is no need of silicone anyway , because it's just like false floor in chamber 2, the 2 blocks will hold the false door in place.

So if you just bought biocube recently, and you want to take out of the false floor, DO NOT push down,
you might broken the wall between chamber 2 and 1.

Hey Thanks for documenting the false floor !!
Reason why I say this is because I have the newer 29gl Biocube and I was about to go to town on the false floor.
Good looking out for your fellow biocube'ers !!!

So what you are saying is that instead of pushing down hard you should use a knife to cut the silcone to remove the false floor? Can anyone confirm if it is indeed the same on the newer Biocube 29 gallons?

There is a reason for the silicone. The floor would float up without it holding it in. Water in that chamber is forced upwards.

The older biocubes had the same "blocks" in place

You are right about the silicone, it will hold the false floor in place in case the water take it upwards.

If the older biocube also had the blocks, then how to push it down to take the false floor out?

StevieT
Press down and or pull up until the silicone bond breaks
Lawnman
Hmmm built in fish saver. I heard they were doing this with all biocube models. That stinks for a certain someone.

Well just sitting here in my lazy boy. biggrin.gif One good thing even if they start putting media baskets in them like JBJ does they can't touch a Stevie T media basket. The JBJ basket sucks as you already know.

That is what I hear. The new one in the LED NC28 looks very familiar.... I wonder why they make them suck.

So when I get my BC14, just cut the silicone and pull the floor out?
Lawnman
I pushed down a little bit then stuck a kitchen fork thru the slats and pulled up. The silicone came out with the floor.

My new BC8 was the same, easy way to get the floor out is to straighten a coat hanger and stick the end through the slats... the silicone is very minimal and pulled apart easily.

Manufacturing shortcuts/cost probably, plus lack of real knowledge of what the hobbyist truly wanted/needed I'd bet. The LED one looks better, but I bet its still not near as good as yours.

Just got my BC last month but it doesn't have those mods in them, bummer...
