I ordered the Maxi-Jet 900 Utility Pump for my BC14.
I put it in the third chamber and it fits perfect. But it makes so much noise.
Then I put it in th tank without touching any wall of the tank, it runs silence.

So I think the noise is from the viberation when pump touches the wall of the tank.

Does anyone have the same problem and how you guys solve it.

Thanks.........

here is the pump I ordered from Mairnedepot.

Are all the suction cups "pushed in" ? And is the pump touching any parts of the wall ?

every suction cups is pushed in, and it's quiet when it's in the middle of water,
But when it's landing on the bottom of tank, it makes a lot of humming sound.

I give up. I bought maxi-jet 900 powerhead to see what happens.
Unfortunately, it makes same humming sound. So I guess they are just what they are.
So I change the pump back to the stock one. The stock one is really quiet than the maxi-jet 900.
I hope with the stock pump and karalia nano, I will get good flow for softies and LPS.

Hmmm, I used the utility pump in my BC-14 and never had that problem. I would just keep fidgeting with it until you get it in the right place. You could also try putting sponges on the sides that touch the wall to stop it from vibrating.

I think the humming is not from touching the wall or something.
I try it in the tank, I put it in the middle of water and it's silence.
But it will make humming sound when I put it on the bottom of
the tank that it's not touching anything at the side.

My tank is in the bedroom, so silent pump is really important to me and my girlfriend.
Actually, I won't notice the humming if the pans is on. But when the fans is off, the sound
becomes noticeable.

Did you guy compare the stock pump and mj900? The sound they make at the same level
of the sound or mj900 is a little bit of loud than the stock pump.

If they are the same at the dBs, maybe I got the two faulty mj900 in a row.

I ran into the same NOISE issues:

Two different pumps, both making much more noise then the stock offering.

1. Eheim Compact 600
2. Mini-Jet 606

It now makes complete sense to me, the stock pump design is focused of course on it being as quite as possible being part of an all in one.

It is handy to have the extra pumps around, I drop one or the other in to service the stock one and when I do, I can hear the replacement pump from the other room.

BTW: Ever notice you are not having to top off much after a normal interval? This means your pump internals are dirty.

Perhaps irrelevant, but I have the "other" type of MaxiJet 900 as a replacement for the stock pump in my BC14 and it's virtually silent. The water gurgling from chamber 1 into chamber 2 (and obviously the fans) are significantly louder.

The mj900 is much louder than the stock pump in the BC 14. I couldnt tolerate the noise and had to put the stock pump back in.
