theres a stainless steel blade with a titanium edge. the stainless steel will rust over time but the edge wont and thats the part that really matters.

no no, I get it, props for diy and whatnot, ingenuity is cool. but you posted the prices, and I remembered I got mine for like five bucks, and it's a pretty blue.

yours is much better for small nano and pico tanks though. in fact, there's a corner of my NW9 that could use a little kebob action...

I made one today from a razor and a chopstick. I used my normal scraper for the vast majority of the glass (it's wider than the razor), and your design for the tight spaces. great for small nanos, esp since my rock is up close to the glass. there's a market for a micro scraper, imo.
and if you design and sell one, I want royalties!

just remember to dry them after, which i never do. which is why mine's rusty.

lol, I only had mine in the tank for like twenty minutes total and it was already starting to rust.

You can also cut up an old credit card, punch a hole in it, and do the same thing with it.

How is that cheaper than $.25?
Razorblade = $0.16
Toothpick = $0.01
Aquamend = $0.08

Did it this weekend in some hard to reach places - sure beats the hell out of getting my arm wet up to my elbows

Pretty effortless, only thing is you have to get the angle right when scraping but if your "skewer" is flexible, and you hold it just right... it pushes down with enough pressure to get coralline off rather easily.
Also, I was lazy and did mine without the Aquamend - it worked out pretty well.

nice, getting tank walls cleaner since 2009.
The Aquamend solves the angle and pressure problem.

i made a new one with a small petco card, and i was going to post pics, but i can't find my camera....
this one won't ever rust, as small as the razor one, but it's not quite as good as the razor.

I have all of this laying around already. Need to make one again to get in those impossible to reach areas. Good work with the aquamend I used tape in the past, derr.

what about using stainless BBQ skewers.. would help with longevity, as i would suspect the skewer to be the weakest link... and then the razor next..
and you sould use the steel skewers over and over.. IF you can get the Aquamed to break off

So I made one today and it works great, although it would've been better if I had titled the blade a little more like in OP's picture. Don't have any lone bbq skewers around so I just used a chopstick. Its ready to go as soon as the aquamend dries.

I have been using skewers for my pico tank as a tool since 08 ! Never attatched a razor to it though ! Great idea !
