Nano-Reef.com Forums > Marketplace > Sponsor Forums > Ocean Gallery II

Reefers
Wild caught yellow assessors are few and far between. ORA will be releasing tank raised yellow assessors in a couple of weeks. When we bought their MACNA display, we got some and are giving you a chance to get this awesome fish!!!

They are $50, supply is limited.

ORA Yellow Assesor $50

Mine looks like those and the price is actually great. I paid $90 for mine and most other places sell them for around $100. wink.gif

Here's mine (it's a geat nano fish).

Dude you're only 15, everything will seem over priced to you. smile.gif

I'm excited for this! I've seen them on the ORA page for a while, but I haven't seen any available. Cool fish, very reef safe, non aggressive, and they'll swim upside down in caves too. I want one for my next tank if I pull my royal gramma.

Most online stores have these going for $50-$90 I don't know where you are getting yellow assessors for less but I'd like to know.

Mine swims upside down at night when I feed it, although it spends the majority of its time sideways.

Of course they included those extremely valuable marketing words......"supply is limited".....

That lets them charge whatever they want....I mean supplies of everything in the world are limited.....c'mon....

As for upside-down fish, I FAR prefer my Ascension goby....he NEVER turns over......I would imagine when he dies he will go belly-down!!!!!
ajmckay
These are great fish... Unfortunately they were more expensive when I was stocking my tank!
basser1
This is great news! Anytime you can buy tank raised fish instead of wild caught, it's a plus. I haven't seen these on-line anywhere for less than $100, unless they're on sale! The one I got from my LFS cost me $100. I will say if you're looking for a "model" fish, this would be it. Very peaceful, easy to keep, non-jumper and very colorful. Instead of gettin' a yellow tang for your nano tank, this would be perfect! wink.gif

I am 15, but I knw for a fact that this is a really good price and for the record I have a load of really nice wish and highend wrasse. So not everyone who is 15 is poor, and no none of the money came from my parents.

I had one. Beautiful and elegant fish....but...mine spent all its time in a cave and only came out for feeding. Wasnt afraid, it just prefered very low light. I traded it in to my LFS for a small acan frag. I hated to get rid if it, but if it takes up bio-load in my tank I would like to at least see it sometimes.
mrnugget
Picked one of these up this morning, and I think the pics here are a good representation of the color.

What you can't see from the pics is the swimming habits of this thing... my kids have been staring at the tank for hours now as it goes sideways, upside down, all over the tank.

As far as being a 'gold fish' - I don't see it, other than the general color family, but I wanted to add some yellow so it works for me.

I'd been waiting on this fish for a long time, and was almost ready to take a 2 - 3 hour ride and would have paid $90 - $100 for a wild-caught version.... glad this worked out, as I like the tank-raised better, and of course can think of better things to do with the $40 - $50 I saved.

I interpreted the 'supplies are limited' line as indicating there were a few from the MACNA display they picked up, so not a species that will regularly be in stock... I can verify there were not alot of these in the tank this morning.

My lfs also got some in and I picked one up today. I didn't pay $50 bucks though. I ended up paying $68. Still thought it was a good price though considering I would have to pay shipping to get it here. Plus the fact wild ones usually go for $90 to $120 on-line.
LivingStrong08
I know I said looks like a gold fish... But i couldn't resist after researching more... Mine will be here tomorrow.. wink.gif

"Mmmmm this leather shoe, sure tastes good!"

Once it gets comfortable to its' surroundings, it will swim out in the open a lot more. I'm seriously considering getting another one.
LivingStrong08
OK.. You have to excuses me as I am still tasting leather in my mouth today, from having to place my foot in my mouth... Obviously I made the comment that the Yellow Assessor, looks like a goldfish... Wow, was I wrong.. I just got my Assessor shipped today from Oceans Gallery II, and wow, this fish is beautiful!! Colors are amazing! Very cool!!!

Also... Brian made sure that I knew the exact comparison to what a gold fish looks like and included a nice fat gold fish free of charge so I can compare... LOL!! When I pulled that bag out first, I was like wow, this really does look like a goldfish!!! lol!! WRONG!!!

I would say that the fish is much more yellow in person, stunning.. I will post pics tomorrow. smile.gif

Thanks again Brian!
BobbyL1212
I dont even think that those pictures are saturated. Some fish are simply very yellow. It's not like a coral.

If you knew anything about Assessors and their origins/collection/availability you would know to keep your mouth shut when you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. And if you're hating cause you can't afford the 50$ fish, come on now, get a new hobby.

As for those that DO know what they are getting, I picked mine up last night. Great health and colors, and I've never seen them so small. It also ate like a pig and was out and about hours after dropping into the tank(acclimated doing a mini water change of course). This is now my third Assessor I've owned in I don't know how many years of keeping reefs. They never drop below 100$ whenever I'm looking for them, and have waited almost a year for a good shipment to come in since I lost my last one. The previous Australian shipments I've seen(probably about 3 having yellows) have all been fully grown, or come in sickly, or both combined.

Now that ORA has released them hopefully more people will be able to afford, and enjoy, this amazing fish.

As for looking like a goldfish, this is the most peaceful, vibrant yellow reefsafe fish IMO you can own. Set that free goldfish up in a bowl next to the tank with the assessor and see how many friends care about the goldfish. But you've already tasted the leather, so it's all good.

Just picked one up today.
He's actually my first fish for my tank.
Actually went in looking for a Starry Blenny (which they had) but this guy caught my eyes. Had read about them previously, but a benjamin is a bit much to drop on a first fish.
The gang at my LFS ( Fish Gallery ) assured me he was an ORA, captive-bred fish -> in fact, one of the first in Houston. They got 3 this week and he was the last one.

Right place at the Right time... FTW!
cool.gif

He's in QT right now -> swimin' round... upside down... looking happy.
Will get some pics posted on my tank thread this weekend.

Cheers...

wow... that's really odd!
from what i've read these are supposed to be one of the most docile fish on the planet. i'm shocked to hear he's on the attack???

might have just been establishing dominance and would have been fine in a couple days.

I thought mine had died because I hadn't seen it in a week or so. I wasn't about to tear my tank apart to look for it, I figured the CUC would take care of it. Then a couple of nights a go after the lights go off, I spot it swimming.

This is just the fish I have been looking for. Discovered it in a book i have last nite, "101 Best Saltwater Fish"-great book, I'm now trying to find one within Northern California.

I love mine! Fun fish to watch, they swim in some pretty crazy directions - upside down, sideways, my wife thought there was something wrong with it. Props to ORA, this little fishy ate like a pig within minutes of hitting the tank - I fed to distract my Maroon Clown adn Yellow Tailed Damsel from the new addition. Food hit the water and it was out eating with the rest of the crew!
