i dont know what this is. saw the tiniest green dot on a frag of clove polyps i got. thought it was a ricordea. i managed to get it onto a frag plate to grow it out and this is how it looks after 4 months. anyone know what it is? probably my fave coral in my tank. thx.

Doesn't really look like galaxea the polyps are pretty large, galaxea from what I've seen looks more like star polyps but with long sweeping tentacles. Are they single polyps or one large colony? Does it have a skeleton?

^ could be that.... Isn't leptstrea related to favias?
I do also see a semblance to galaxia, which sometimes have the long sweeper tentacles, but other times look much more compact but not completely withdrawn.
Wow, I agree that this coral rocks...

its not galaxea. touch it. if it retracts into a skeleton, it is most likely leptastrea.

thanx for the replies! yah it retracts its sweepers if i touch it and it does have a skeleton. when mini food pellets land on it, it actually swallows them(slowly of course...and that's if my percula doesnt steal the pellets)! lmao i dont even know how it manages. i will look up your suggestions and see if i have a winner. pretty sweet for a hitchhiker! thanks again...
edit: looks like its leptastrea. found a link to a sky blue color like mine. apparently its a rare coral? sweet!

If it was galaxea then your clove polyps would not have been too pleased with it. My LFS said that galaxea coral has a sting more powerful than frogspawn/torch/hammer. He said it would actually kill frogspawn/torch or hammer if it came into a lot of contact with it.

well maybe, but since it was the size of a pin-head, im pretty sure it didnt do much stinging. lol. (dont ask how i spotted it...royal blue LEDs will make the most microscopic glowing organism stand out!)
