is this possible? I think it would be very cool to have something like this with ghost crabs or other shore creatures along with some fish. Has anyone every attempted to do this? I would assume it would be hard to keep the sand at a slope into the water at some parts.

Thanks!

Monterey Bay aquarium did a large exhibit like this. They had a machine that duplicated little waves which kept the sand at an angle (I guess), and kept water running through it. I wonder if that could work on a smaller scale?

Hmmm... any other suggestions or comments?

Yeah. I saw that one at the MB aquarium as well.

I think you'd have a hard time keeping the exact slope you construct, but a well placed powerhead should be able to create one naturally. IMO

I think it would be very hard to do on a small scale, because the crabs would decide where the sand goes..
although you could make the slope out of foam coated with sand and back fill the foam slope with real sand?

i have one of these being set up right now. well not now lol its night time. but what i did was get some eggcrate make a top and a ramp up to it. then got some special sheets and put them over the ramp and top. took it outside and glued sand all over. looks really nice accually that i think about it. just need to do the plumbing next. link to thread if you would like to check it out. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...p;#entry2483355

not sure goign to get a quote on the plumping parts and over flows and etc. ghost crab? never had one but if it likes to walk around out of the water sounds like a good crab to buy and will research it to make a adequte home for it smile.gif so far i can put about 15G in total in my tank about 5-10 will be infront of the slope with atleast 1 or 2 tiny as tiny can be fish lol. and have some small hermits or crabs. once they get up to about a 1" move them to bigger tank to keep from killing fish lol and just buy more crabs lol since more cuc in main tank is not a bad idea when they get bigger lol.
