I have been thinking about getting a better camera. I used to have a Canon P&S, but wanted to be able to take better photos, more on par what I see here an N-R. Would the Canon Rebel be a good camera that would let me learn all the ins and outs of dSLR photography and eventually allow me to rake pics like the ones I see here? Thanks!

PS: Here are some some of the ones I took on my P&S. Sadly these are probably my better ones.

Yes. I'm actually hoping to upgrade to a T1i soon.
You may want to look at the equivalent Nikons also.

which photos on here are you talking about? lalani's are done with a dslr. all of the photos in this thread are done with a point and shoot.

in short, yes, the canon is a great starter body to learn dslr photography. the kit lens won't give you much in the way of great reef tank photography though, you'll definitely need to upgrade. I recently sold my dslr and downgraded to a canon p&s, and imo the image quality I'm getting is on par with the old camera. in fact I'm getting less throw away shots with the p&s, lol. it's not what you have, but how you use it that counts.

I picked up the T1i at the end of July. It was my first DSLR. Very easy to learn the basics. I like the camera but have never tried a Nikon, I stick with what works.
