no changes to budget.

Are you still in this contest?
justkidding86
I'm sure it's no big deal but my tank has a slight bow in the sides. It looks like the worst is about an 1/8th of an inch bow in the front and it starts about 8 inches up from the bottom. Should I be concerned? Are your tanks starting to bow like mine? This is my first acrylic tank so I don't really know what this means.

If anyone around the Los Angeles area wants a free Snow Globe Paly hit me up.

No need to save, these things grow like weeds! I paid about $60 for 2 polyps from Vivid about 3-4 months ago and I've got 20+ now easily.
JoeD
Where do Mohawks, and Fire and Ice fall on the scale? Common? Nice? If snow globes are free... smile.gif
jaygalindo
even if jz gave me them for free I still have to charge what they are worth PP.
lajz9
So, if any livestock (coral/invert/fish) dies within a couple days of being purchased, does it still need to be deducted if the death is not due to tank parameters?

i think the rules say it is still deducted

no an answer to JoeD

Yea, I'm not sure I agree with this. If the LFS is refunding I think it shouldn't have to be deducted, but i'll leave as is.

JoeD
What died??? On a serious note, what about kamikaze snails that crawl out? My tank's not stocked yet, but I know some have had issues. Also I have 10-15 mushrooms that I'm willing to trade 1 for 1 for any of the euphyllia sp. tongue.gif
lajz9
Cheap acan, no big deal. It was a 50/50 shot.

Good luck with the snails! Mine keep going through the overflow.
jaygalindo
I am thinking about adding a Goby to my tank. I have a couple questions.

What causes Gobies to jump?
Are there Gobies that do not jump?
What are some easy ways to make a lid for the Cube?

Thanks

Hmm... if the LFS offers a refund or replacement... no fault due to params?
Can we make a list of grey areas... there's going to be a lot....

(I'd still like a snow globe or 2 if we can figure out shipping... doesn't matter if it's now or after the contest)

So I guess this is a non issue

I'd just thought that I would post this here because I have the same 12x12x9 cube as everyone here, at least ones made by erickrm. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just my cube?

Thanks in advance

Can't help on the Goby's, but a piece of glass from an 8 x 12 pic frame works good as a temp lid.... Just not very photogenic.

Calcium was a little low (380) but I don't think that would be the issue.

I found one of my prwinkles crawling on the outside of the tank. My dwarf cerith and perwinkles do crawl into the overflow.

Not sure which jump/don't but I think all should be given an acclimation period.
My GCG and sexy shrimp jumped over into the back chamber their first few days in the tank - made a temp fishsaver and overflow screen but I've removed them now that everyone is comfortable in the tank - Now if I put my hand in they dive into a cave or behind a rock and no more "exploring"....

hope that helps

I don't but the Dual Satellite is 1.75" off the water so maybe they bounce off that all day huh.gif

My front panel bows slightly out at the top middle.

JZ - the animal died in your cube. I would consider that lost buget. I can get 2 week guarantees on basically all of my livestock, so I could keep putting Blue Spotted Watchmen in there until I found one that didn't jump within the first 2 weeks, or rare fish that need huge amounts of swimming room....

At best you said it was 50/50 the coral would live. So you suggest taking no risk with your budget, but hoping for all the gain. Best case scenario for you should be to loose 50% of the value, but I would vote for all. More later - I have an apt.

My understanding of the rules is if it dies (for whatever reason) you lose 100% of the money from you budget..

Yes, already agreed it's being deducted.

Doc, are you still in this contest? Did we raise the limit to $350 or did I miss something?

Doc was right at budget until the list came out. I think he's waiting to safely remove stuff. Doc sorry If I miss spoke.

I am above limit, no doubt.

Very close to losing my red acan. Trying desperately to save it but the sexies keep picking at it!
Doc Frye
Nah, I am not removing anything. I actually added my clean-up crew today (additional $8.30 - from reefCleaners.) I may end up removing a Fireshrimp which would still put me under budget actually spent.

What you actually spent doesn't matter. So what you're trying to avoid saying is that you're out of the contest because you're over budget?

Sorry, I know this sounds confrontational but we've been through this so many damn times in this thread. If you're over budget just bow out.
Doc Frye
If I get kicked out, I am out. I don't expect a single vote since I am posting my above limit budget for all to see on page one of my post. Either way I will continue to post and update. I am certainly not excited about winning a 9" acrylic box. Esp after working with a tank this size.

Edit - due to LA Jz's Edit - I was under budget when i put all my corals in and ordered all my stock. After I put it in the tank, the prices were changed. I am not about to rip animals off rocks for the second time in a couple weeks to win a contest.

I hear that! Definitely going a little bigger after this is over.

You've also got to assume we're going to hear from the tank builder again...

I am going to have to agree on that one. I have 0.00 in my livestock but didn't count it as such smile.gif

No bowing on mine. I wonder if your light is heating up the acrylic? I know the top of 260 with a 400 watt mh bows a little.

I could be the light but I have it about 18in from the top of the tank. I raised the viper as high as it would go. My main concern is that this slight bowing will result in a catastrophic tank failure and 6g of water everywhere destroying what electronics are around it. I will be watching it closely.

I can't imagine that happening in such a small, shallow tank. I won't say it couldn't happen, but it doesn't seem likely. You are talking about 1/8" of bowing at the very top center of the front panel, right?

Front panel has 1/8in bow starting at the top to about 2in down. The sides have a slightly lesser bow but more toward the front because of the wall and it goes about 2in down. I will try and take a pic tonight for more reference.

Take a look at it after the light has been off for awhile. Is it flexable if you push on with light on for awhile. Then try to check how flexable it is when the lights been off for a few hours.

Will do. I'm sure it's nothing I'm just a little paranoid about things like this. I took some blurry pics if that helps smile.gif

Doc Frye
Acrylic bends a little. Scooter, is this anything to worry about? Mine's doing the same thing.
1337TANKHAX
I'm pretty sure it isn't the light. My tank has a slight bowing as well, and I'm running the 2 x 18Watt T5HO by Nova, which doesn't put out very much heat.

almost all small acrylic aquariums without a top brace bow. mine has a bow in the front and sides it is very minor and nothing to be concerned with IMO . then again i only built two of the tanks in this contest. when i bend the piece for the sides and front panels i try to bend it in slightly to avoid bowing when filled with water. still bows a little.these are only 1/4" thick fellas. my 40 breeder bows more then these little things!

bob is correct ALL acrylic and plastic in general is thermal form-able ei.. it bends under heat wink.gif

i don't think the bowing on the sides and front panels are a heat issue. simple outward pressure from the water inside

i cant believe i just said that " bob is correct" tongue.gif

How many of these were added for a cost of $2.40, JZ? 1 at $2.40? 2 at $1.20 each? 0.45 at $5 per? 8 at $0.30 as a "No names- $ .30 PP - not really colorful at all?"

what is this about more price haggling?

You're all a bunch of skirted palys. Stop worrying about what Doc Proc has his hands in and let's do this thing. Who's in the lead without breaking their budget 2weeks in?
