Ok I have a BioCube 14 with the Nanotuners 3.24 lighting up grade. I was thinking about doing the Brinks metal halide. What are the parts I need to do this?? And can I get a ballast from home depot?

you need:
halogen security fixture (unsure of what size)
double ended bulb (of what ever wattage you nee)
i would suggest atleast 12 gauge wire (some would argue it being overkill, but it's better safe than sorry)
wire nuts
ballast from www.ballastwise.com

and well thats pretty much it. anything im missing is covered via the diy

Ok thanks. Home depot has alot of ballast. Can I get one from there and what size ballast do I need?

If you're doing the 70w MH project, you'll need an ANSI code M85 ballast. (hqi electronic ballast)

if your powering a 70 watt bulb you need a 70 watt ballast.

i dont know about home depot ballasts. but for $30-$40 why cant you trust ballastwise.com?

I found 70W ballasts on Ebay and got 4 of them shipped to me in Canada for 100 bucks (my currency). Used M85 magnetic HQI (or MQI, whatever that means). But I had to wire it myself, which required a plug (I cut the end off a grounded extension cord)...

All in all I'm really happy with the DIY metal halide (though some would argue it's overkill on a 10 gallon), but you have to remember to match the codes... M85 ballasts are only to be used with M85 lamps. That said, I also bought my 14K 70W bulb from an online Ebay store, and I'm super happy with these lamps also.
