Okay...so I've read and searched for the past week and I'm still not convinced!

I'm having a small outbreak in my 6 gallon office tank.

Here are the specs:
6 gallon Fluval Edge
1 inch of sand
Hang on Filter (running Chemi-Pure type Carbon)
1 snail, 1 sexy shrimp, 2 crabs
About 74 degrees

I do a regular 2 gallon water change every Sunday...I just did one yesterday!

Since I've started even before I added fish I had a problem with red slime! I've tried cutting the lights off, feeding less, syphoning the sand...but to no avail.

***I HAVE NOT DONE WATER CHANGES EVERYDAY***

I now feed about every 3 days for my 1 firefish and 1 clown goby. The problem is the cyno keeps growing back and I've added sand twice (I've already gone through an entire bag)! I'm thinking about just tanking all the sand out and adding new sand, but I feel it will just grow again.

Should I buy more crabs and snails? My 29 gallon tank at home is perfect and has no issues so I don't know what to do.

I think it might be because the natural sunlight that enters my office. It can't be because of the tank lights because I only keep the tank lights on between 9am-6pm.

Any thoughts?

do you use RO/DI? that helped me.
pimp4cheddar
I have been for about 10 days...before I was using spring water to top off...

I know my ear rung by my LFS about that...

But it's still growing with using RO/DI water...

it works incredibly

I had acyano issue that I tried fighting naturally for 3 months. I finally said #### it and went with chemi-clean, it was gone in 48 hours.

Just follow the instructions exactly on the box.

It killed my tiny barred goby....I hate chemical fixes....more flow and less nutrients....that's how to get rid of cyano....

I'm trying man!!!

I feed about every 3 days...but I think the problem I've been running into is my CUC. I had 1 crab and 2 snails.

I just went and brought 4 crabs and 4 snails...so we'll see. I think this might work!

I don't like chemical fixes and I honestly would leave that as a last alternative...

Thanks folks,

is it true with cyano that if you dont turn your lights on for a day or 2 itll go away?
pimp4cheddar
Not entirely...

Light is a factor of cyno...leave your lights on for 9 days and see what happens!

A method of controling it is to block all light from your tank and do a ton of water changes over a few days...but light isn't my problem...thus the reason I passed shutting off all lights.
