Full Version: what's up with these dc jacks?

So I'm getting close on my bc 14 LED retro, but have run into a problem...i think.
I bought a couple of size M dc plugs and connectors. Wired up the connectors just fine, but when i insert the plug into the connector, about 1- 1.5mm of the barrel part of the plug is exposed/visible. The plugs are fully seated in the connectors.

Is that bad/dangerous? Is there something I am missing?
Here's links to the hardware.

As long as the outside of the barrel is ground, there is nothing to worry about.

many thanks. Ground in this dc application meaning negative/black wire?

Typically, yes.

If you look on the label for the wall wart/transformer there should be a diagram that will show you the polarity of the plug. It can be small and easy to overlook sometimes. Took me a second to two of looking over my laptop transformer to figure out if it was there or not. Since we all like pictures, here is an image that shows the symbols.

cheers!
