I saw this on here a while back:

Quick question, for setting up a flash to shoot in the side of the box (remotely mounted), what kind of trigger would I need? Are there cheap options or would I need to get something like a pocket wizard?

I have that exact macro studio that I made myself

I use clamp on lights instead of speed lights for it, because its easier to manipulate the lights and angles, etc

depending on your camera and speed lights, it will fire the speed lights remotely

I use a Nikon D80 w/ SB600 speed light...I presume a canon analogue will have the same capabilities

you need to set the speed light to command mode (or equivalent) and set the camera and speed light to the same channel and they will communicate

in this case, nikon > canon. the canon flashes can't be triggered by the body. need an additional 3rd party trigger.

is there a wired component that can connect to the boot at least?

from canon.

or, get this, this and a large piece of white poster board and forgo the cardboard box completely.

to fire a remote flash wirelessly, you're looking at one of these. alternatively, canon's 580ex, ring flash and twin flash can all operate as masters.
