Wow. thats a really nice clam. hmm interesting shape. could be a derasa, but looks like it could also be the same species as the one that was recently discovered in the red sea.

probably right, but the store was selling them as derasas
this one has scutes... ders don't normally.

yup. common mislabeling of a clam. oh well. whos ever clam that is, he could be rich if he sold it.

i think that one is definitely a Derasa. you can see the classic brown and green rim around it.

i'm going to look into it some more. store had 3 of them and said they were transhipped in, but i forgot to ask from where. my guess is vietnam or indo, but i'll confirm tomorrow. could possibly be from the red sea, but i doubt it.
if it's T. costata, it's considered to be a critically endangered species...
