speaking of which, you need to update your cw tank thread. now.

update...

nothing new.

at all.

seriously.

literally no changes...

including water changes.

maybe the algae grew a bit.

thats it.

can't find livestock around here.

Jamie
sad, you could by the obscenely priced coldwater fish on liveaquaria?

you two are both on the list.

but for every person who wants cw stuff, it means I have to divide it into smaller amounts. so don't get greedy wink.gif

and you guys all have to send me stuff back when I get out of college and have time for a cw tank again.

so, I went tidepooling in Maine, and I couldn't find anything. It was weird. Then again, I only spent, like, 20 minutes, and it wasn't a very low tide, but I was still surprised. I wonder what their collection regs are?

don't worry. by the way, it's been above 90 the past few days here, dunno how that happened, but I swear it will cool off soon enough. How's the weather in Louisiana?

I feel like I would die of hypothermia in about ten seconds. Actually, I tried swimming at the Oregon coast without a wetsuit for the first time a few weeks ago. Air was 60 and raining, water was 50 and wet, it was awesome, and I didn't even die! I stubbed my toes a lot though because I couldn't feel my feet. happy.gif

Also, when I was in maine, I touched a lobster! ninja.gif

I was eating it, of course. smile.gif

Eh, after you get used to swimming while shivering, it's not so bad. But yeah...gotta go down well below the low tide line in Maine just because the tides can be so variable. Unless it's an especially low tide, you'll probably get nothing but seaweed, barnacles, and some kinda coldwater nerite looking snail. Also helps if you're out on one of the islands off the coast.

Look! Inexpensive temperate fish!

http://liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDispl...&ddid=71792

ok, kind of expensive, but you do get three of them. It says 68-77, but I doubt they'd have trouble adapting to water that was a little colder. I have a feeling the doctors are just trying to convince people with tropical tanks to buy them.

okay, after google seaching, I found out that these come from the izu peninsula in japan. here is a brief diving review:

http://www.japanvisitor.com/index.php?cID=359&pID=342

"Even in January and February, when you need warm coats and mittens on land, water temperatures don't fall much below 15 degrees, which is perfectly comfortable if you wear a dry suit."

15 C = 59 F, so, sounds like they'd be perfect for a coldwater tank to me!

Hey Vic smile.gif

*sigh* I really like that little goby. Maybe it'll stick around on there until I get some money for it. Already used up my birthday present on a new Xbox and the new Halo game. Priorities... wink.gif

Meanwhile, post some pics. You can't spend all your time planning for the future.

Late to party. I would like to suggest a remote flash if at ALL possible. Even shining a handheld (regardless of how bright it looks to you) helps bring the reds back. Do NOT use the built-in flash. EVERY STINKING particulate in the water will reflect it back. Side lighting is a must, or slight over exposure.
I tend to shoot RAW format so that I can white balance in post process. Levels in PS can help you bring back the reds. Below 100 feet, things are almost completely blue without supplemental lighting, but perfect for silhouette shots above you. Catching a snorkler on the surface with an off-set moon is a priceless shot.

Nice advice, but the G9/G10 water housing is only good to 30ft I think. smile.gif

nah, it's good to 40m, but i think xbox said he was snorkeling.

either way...

an underwater flash would cost more than his camera, and renting one is probably $125 a week or more. better spent on other honeymoon things imo.

Snorking. Right. My bad. I use a hand-held dive light since my rig doesn't support remote firing. Actually, my rig doesn't support ANYTHING anymore. I have a German Shepard and he ate the camera last Winter. Only have the Rebel STi now. sad.gif

(picture was photoshop'd to remove the color of the brittle stars to focus on the Red of the subject, but that color was NOT changed in ANY way!)

Here is the original from my first camera. Nothing to publish, but thought it would be fun to see what you can do with a P&S. (This was at 80 feet, though.....)
