Well, I don't usually go on NR but here's my tank thread.I wanted a clean/simple tank. I don't want to use the word modern cause it's misused so much with furniture, decorations, and yes aquariums. Here goes...

TANK
-36x30x20 rimless starphire(3 sides)
I purchased the tank from Ali at Amazing Aquariums&Reefs

Nice! You should post on NR more often smile.gif

And I could do the math but it is late lol, how many gallons?
pnguy3n
Here's the steel stand, I decided to have it powder coated white. John from http://www.distunlimited.com/ who helped me with my stand was super helpful and patient with me.

Much potential, tuning in. Would love to see some number$ for some of the great stuff.

My steel stand will be skinned by my friend that does concrete work. Here's a picture of it being made, the sides will be concrete and door will be a white kitchen cabinet.

Sushi
wow, this is going to be an extremely impressive build! let us know when the stand is completely skinned!
ScionRacerbB
wow looks really sweet...I love it when people put in time for custom builds....
Aquanist
Sleek!
Sushi

I'm glad you appreciate it, I didn't want the stand to take away from the tank. It sure seems like it. Are you from Kihei? I went to Maui last year and stayed there. It was a blast.

Hi Daniel, are you the one that makes mag racks? If so, then I've purchased from you before. Glad to hear from you dude. Anyways I plan on purchasing either an ATI powermodule or sunpower. I'm debating whether to go with 6 bulb with spotlights or the 8 bulb fixture. I currently have the Sfiligoi SOLEset but the wide is not enough for a 30" wide tank.
fewskillz
Amazing Aquariums could not be a more fitting manufacturer for that tank.

Can't wait to see the progress.
SpankythePyro
with a 30" depth I'd go 8 bulb!!!
nanoreefnate
Thats an awesome tank man. good luck with the build! wink.gif

I totally agree, it's no ELOS or A.G.E but I'm really happy how it turned out. Ali(owner) really helped me out.

I've been getting alot of input and majority have said 8 bulb.

For now I have (1) Tunze 6055, but with that I will also be running (2) Tunze 6045.

Phyto4life
I would go 8 bulbs as well
PrincessLiLi
nah get a vortech...your tank would be serious buisness

Here are some of the display tanks at Amazing aquariums&reefs. I had to drive from San Diego to Orange to make my decision. After seeing these tanks it wasn't too hard to make my final decision.

Yep, that's me. smile.gif

I agree with the 8 bulb fixture, it'll give you a lot more diversity when you go and choose bulbs, plus your tank is so wide you're going to be happy you went with 2 extra bulbs.

I look forward to seeing the tank with some plumbing, LS/LR and water! smile.gif

Oh yea, I second the Vortech too... 1 MP40 or 2 MP20's should do wonders for the tank smile.gif

+1 to an awesome tank with lots of potential.

The steel stand is also quite nice with the concrete skin.. Will the concrete be polished or rough? This will be one heavy tank!

Thanks, the concrete stand will be polished. I asked him if it will be heavy and he said hes carried a side by himself. There will be 3 sides (top, 1 left, 1 right).

Here's a little preview of the skinning of the stand. Ran into a little problem with my laminate wood floors, apparently the place where I want my tank is uneven. rant01.gif

masterbuilder
Never seen a floor that was level....just shim the stand. Wooden shims will work but plastic shims are the best. I usually over shim by 1/16 inch to allow for compression over time.

Yeah wooden shims it is, we'll see how it turns out.

WOW!!! I think I would have left that store with a tank as well after seeing this beauty. Long and shallow....perfect.

Paleoreef103
Awesome build so far! Why are you only using one controllable tunze though? A trio of 6055s or a pair of 6105s would be absolutely incredible in this tank. I love it though. I'm sure this is going to be incredible.
pheallox
I love going to see Ali @ AAR he has the best displays out of any LFS I have seen.

With laminate floors and a stand skinned with concrete are you worried about weight......

I totally agree with Ali's store. Super nice guy too, really help me with my tank decision.

I thought it was really going to be an issue with the weight, but the way he described the process it really assured me that the concrete was going to be the least of my worries. He is going to have L brackets and glue that to the stand and concrete. Then drill some screws in, so far it's looking great.
pnguy3n
So here's the tank/stand, turned out really nice. My apologies for the messy living room. I still have to paint the bottom panel under the sump.

Justind823
I like that stand a lot, the whole design is very clean.
nematoad
Are you going to have anything under the tank and the concrete top?

I was going to put foam or whatever that board you get at Home Depot but decided not to. It's just the tank then the concrete. Installer said it wasn't necessary, everything is leveled. We decided to go with the wooden shims.

To be honest with you I'm kind of the lazy/cheap reefer. It's really hard to believe with a project like this. I've been lagging for about a year now with not rushing too bad I just want the tank up and running. I will eventually upgrade to all 6055 and a new skimmer but for now it will get the job done.
fewskillz
Gorgeous stand!
pnguy3n
Here's a little bit about the stand.I wanted a 1" overhang with the top and tank. You can see in post #28 how it turned out. It's made by my good friend Rojo, I've added his website below.

Sleek and modern. I love it! happy.gif

P.S. your living room is far from messy.

Had a friend come over and take some pics. The pics turned out great, still some final touches I have to do with the stand. Enjoy!

These pictures are something you see in a home decorating magazine or something. The one with the boston terrier is a sweet picture.

Yeah I'm surprised how patient my dog was.

INCREDIBLE. happy.gif when ya planning on putting water into that bad boy?
Sushi
The texture on the concrete works surprisingly well... beats the socks off of wood grain anyday IMO.

Will you be mounting your lights from the ceiling or hanging from a light bar?
