That is some beautiful looking rock, and I really like your aquascaping. I do find that big chunk of rock sticking out of the left formation a little jarring though.
Looking good, I'm looking forward to tracking your progress

Thanks for the kind words

I actually put that there on purpose. From this view it doesn't look good, but it's actually kind of a ledge. It'll make a good spot for a nice coral

Looks good, I just got a 60 gallon tank that I am still in the planning stages with.
Like the open sand areas allows for some flexibility in regards to LPS like scolymia's

I think I'll go sumpless for now, but who knows. Maybe I'll add one someday. If I do, I'll have someone from my local club drill it.

I'm kind of thinking about a copperband butterfly.
What do you guys think? Any issues with that?
DBTReefer
Sep 25 2009, 05:46 AM
I would only get a copperband if you have a serious problem with glass anemones. They are extremely hard to keep. If you insist on getting a butterfly, go with a black and white heniochus or an Auriga. Keep in mind that the can an might eat your corals.
I personally would get a large school of cardinals. I love those fish.

Yeah, after posting that, I kind of came to the conclusion that CB's seem to be more trouble than they're worth.
I like cardinals too, but I also want a 'centerpiece fish'
I just can't decide what.

I love his prices. I have a colony of 25+ "true" red people eaters that I got for like $20. I'm fragging it up tonight. We'll have to trade coral once your tank is established.

I found a full colony of RPE for $25. I made 5 frags, and made it so they'll grow onto another plug. Makes easy fragging.

Thanks! I had four in there but just sold/traded them. I'm very excited for this orange morph, check out the blue along the edges. This has been cut for two weeks and is big enough to be cut in half or thirds again. The original ric is probably close to three inches across, it's big.

Yeah, That's how it used to be for me, they were charging 6-7 dollars per pound, and the rock was crap. I found someone that runs a bussiness out of his garage though, and this is the rock he sells. It's only $3 per pound too!
Anyways, I've got an update, but i'm not telling you what it is until my lights come on tonight. Feel free to guess though.
I'm going to have to rehome my clown and my dottiback or else they'll get eaten.
My perpperments will likely die.
I can no longer reach my hand in the tank without knowing where everything is.
I need live food for a while.

just curious, i'm wondering what your ricordea recovery thing is about. thanks!
GrandpaFeathers
May 24 2010, 09:59 AM
Hey Jake!
The reason behind that: I am too impatient to let my rics spread on their own. They seem to grow three inches before splitting, so I help them along. I take an adult, cut it into three pieces, and put them in the recovery. They go in there so I don't lose them. After a month, I cut each third in half. Then I let them all grow to adult size.

I need to see his flash.

Can you get him to display and get a pic of the back of his pectoral fins? It doesn't need to be a great shot. Just something like the pic below.

A goblin isn't a scorpionfish persa... it's a stingfish that backs a more powerful sting than your ordinary scorp.

GrandpaFeathers,
i'm Renee's (seahorsedreams) "other half", and i can tell you that your fish is most likely Inimicus caledonicus, AKA in the US as the "Chinese ghoul", "bearded ghoul", and "demon stinger". as Renee mentioned (i see she posted while i was typing this), it's a "sea goblin", and not what true stingfish afficionados call a "ghoul" (that name is reserved for genus Choridactylus).
in the wild, they max out at 9"-10" TL. IMHO, Inimicus are one of the "must have" fish for collectors of venomous fish. as you probably are finding out, they spend much of their time buried up to their eyes in the substrate, but IME, they will also spend some time out and about, especially once they know you're the "food god". according to Scott Michael, these fish are intolerant of conspecifics (unless you have a M-F pair), so it's best to keep only one goblin per tank.
just a warning: altho you'd have to try pretty darned hard to get stung by a goblin (you'd pretty much have to put your hand right on it), they are quite a bit more toxic than a lionfish (first aid is the same), and thus will hurt a lot more.

Thanks for the help everyone. It's really hard to get him to flash, he just sits there. he doesn't really get scared. I saw him flash once at my coral beauty though, and it was the same mottled orange/brown color, but with really bright yellow dots. I'll go try some more to get a pic.

Everything scorpkeeper said seems right on, while describing its characteristics. I actually touched it with my feeding stick, and it barely shifted at all. Eventually it swam off, and i got a couple crappy photos, but they show a small portion of it. He'll actually follow the feeding stick around the aquarium if i keep it too far away. It seems active, and swims very lazily. It also burrows up to its eyes on occasion.
Pics uploading now.
