Went to Montage Laguna Beach today.

And my buddy testing out his new Canon 50d

All shot with Canon T1i + Tamron 17-50mm f2.8

Haven't had time to shoot too many pictures lately, but since my friend just received his 50d, I now have someone to go shoot with. I'll be posting more pictures here.

I wish I lived on the beach haha. It's public access. The resort itself is private, but the beaches near there/in front of there is public. Nice place too. There were a bunch of amateur photographers strolling around taking pictures so I felt right at home biggrin.gif . Down on the beach there were a few pro's doing family/couple portraits. I guess its a popular photography location.

Everyday carry set-up

Canon t1i
Tamron 17-50mm f/2,8
Opteka Battery Grip
Homemade "r-strap"

The grip just came in today. Camera feels great with it. I don't think I can go back to the rebel series without a battery grip. Build quality on the opteka is very good. Only thing is the dial does not feel as solid as the stock dial on the camera. Shutter and all the other buttons feel fine.

Thanks. And rich I am not happy.gif I wish. This is probably one of the most affordable decent zoom lenses available.

There are a couple of lenses that I'm itching to buy but no funds at this time.

hmmm interesting. how much was it?

Retails for $450 new on bhphoto.com (free shipping).

You can find used on your local craigslist for ~ $300. I have no problem buying used. Just bring a laptop along so you can take some test shots to make sure you get a sharp copy. You don't want one with front or backfocus issues. Also check front and rear elements for any scratches, scuffs, etc, and look inside.

If you shoot wide the 17-50mm is a great lens, if you need more zoom, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. Both shoot great (as long as you get a sharp copy). Build quality is also very good. Autofocus is a bit loud if you're used to canon's USM. It doesn't really bother me but might bother some people.

Oh wow. thanks man wink.gif what i really wanted was a lens that my friend has. its like a macro and a wide angle at the same time. idk the make or model but all i can say is its big white and fits the XSi...LOL.
again thanks for the info biggrin.gif

White and big automatically makes me think of 70-200mm L lenses. Not exactly wide angle though.

Thats the next lens I want actually. 70-200mm f4L. Supposed to be a great lens for the price.
latazyo
why not 2.8?
jokercykoe
Price difference cool.gif But dang, I could also use the 100mm macro lens. Would be a sweet lens to take pictures of stuff in the tank.
latazyo
if the cost of the compromise is minimal, then is it a compromise?

canon 70-200/4 $627 http://www.amazon.com/Canon-70-200mm-Telep...1495&sr=8-1

canon 70-200/2.8 $1,950 http://www.amazon.com/Canon-70-200mm-2-8L-...1495&sr=8-3

sigma 70-200/2.8 $799 http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-70-200mm-Macro...1510&sr=8-1

I figured that since you rock a tamron lens that you aren't a canon brand snob and might be interested in this great brand I have recently discovered personally that is sigma...as long as there is a sigma analogue, I do not know if I will buy a nikkor lens, because I am just that happy with my sigma's quality

PM me if you want to see some shots taken with the 70-200/2.8

Why don't you ever post pics?
latazyo
FWIW, the pics I am referencing are my buddy's

I dont have the sig 70-200, he does

excuses:
1. my computer is broken and over heats when I try to export from LR (hence that one thread I started)
2. most of my pictures can't be shared online (not in a pervy way)
3. most of them are just of my dog and who wants to see that? I live in the burbs, I dont have any abandoned cultural centers to photograph out here

Lunch today. Pan seared some nice ribeyes and a salad.

Your choice of steak Rub
Fresh crushed black pepper (if you want)
EVOO
Ribeyes

Coat ribeyes with EVOO
rub down with dry rub
Put some EVOO in the pan. EVOO burns easy so watch it.
Pan sear presentation side 4 minutes Medium High
Flip, sear other side 2 minutes
Place in preheated oven @ 275 degrees 10-15 minutes
Let sit 5 minutes before grubbing.

Thats the gist of it. Adjust times depending on your stove/oven etc.
