i talked to current usa customer service today and this fall they are releasing a line of bulbs that they told me will have alot better par and a variety of colors!!! they wouldnt tell me what colors or even dates but they did say within the next 2 to 3 months.

Good to hear - hopefully true. I'd love to have better bulbs - that's what really keeping this size back.

anyway this prompted me to build my version of the 18" nova extreme pro. dr. fosters sent me the wrong light twice so i got bot at discount. built the hood today and stained it. also added a rainbow monti to my tank. thats what im hoping it is anyway.


they told me a "line" of new bulbs. wander how diverse that will be. they did say "with better PAR" though. i knew it was just a matter of time before new bulbs for these came out. nano-reefing has become pretty popular and they will want to push their fixtures. now if only geisman or uri would get into the 20"ers

I think the NEP is Freat! Only thing that s*cks is the lack of bulb choice. If Im not mistaken the NEP uses 16 3/8 in bulbs not 18 in, but I could be wrong.

I am keeping a Maxima and Crocea about 4-6 inches from the light and they seem "happy as a clam" pun intended . Seeing good mantle extension and new scutes forming...

My softies are loving the light, especially my kenya tree.

Heat and evap issues made me chose HO v MH and as long as ambient temps are below 76 the tank doesn't get about 80-82

i started my hood wiring today and my wife dropped the camera so i cant get pics but its basically a diy version of the pro... stain grade maple etc.. i wired in the first light today.. had to get a role of solid 18 guage though to wire the ballast into the stand.. used disconnects and plugged it up... BLAM!!!. 2 more to go.. this is gonna be a huge improvment over what i have now. add thelight as well as a koralia nano friday and ill see what happens.. everything should work out freat..

The 18" Nova Extreme and the 20" Nova Extreme Pro use the same bulbs. And why isn't this in the lighting forum?

18 watt... and its not in the lighting forum because i just hit "new post" on whatever screen im at during the time. so evil dont be surprised if you see an overflow box question from me in the clam forum..

18W what? All the bulbs for the 18" and 20" fixtures are now listed as 20W from Current. Same bulbs for both fixtures.

i understand they are the same light. it was a typo.. the whole title is a typo come to think of it. now....to my understanding the 20" is actually 18 watts.. has that changed recently?



we will see what they come out with... i think they will start making some soon enough/.

double checked and my ballast is for 2x18 watt

They changed it to 20W (same bulbs) when they went to the new SLR reflectors in the Nova Extreme.

ok i gotcha. sucks though.. i wanted the slr but they kept sending me regular nova's.. thats cool though, i built my fixture and will put pics on here soon..

cool i need more options for my nep 20" i have 5 -460 and 1 -10k and its a little better then the stock 3x3 setup but i can wait to other compines make some replacment for the nep 20" like a fiji purple, aqua blue etc.... it sucks all stop at 24" it would be a good market for them well hope to see it by christmas time i hope some options ok later all

Damn I wish I saw this thread 2 days ago, wouldve pushed me to buy the 6x18w NEP that was for sale in the classifieds...I passed on it instead since the bulb choices were garbage. Then I couldve put my sundial over my soon to be converted 28 bowfront... hmmmm
