Full Version: 8g Biocube as a Frag Growout Tank?

Last month I upgraded from an 8g Biocube to a 29g, and am just starting to add some corals. The 8g is in the garage, and I've been trying to decide how to dispose of it (sell on ebay? try to find a local buyer to avoid packing/shipping it?). But now I'm thinking that perhaps I can put it to use as a small frag tank for zoas, mushrooms, etc.

In addition to the 29g, I'm also going to convert my 90g FOWLR to a softie / LPS reef, and it might be nice to be able to have a little frag tank to get some growth before moving them over to the bigger tanks.

Or is an 8g too small to be useful? A larger frag tank is not possible due to lack of space.

I can always put some frag racks in the 29g and/or 90g, but I'd rather not.

Admittedly, I feel like the sterotypical photographer who shows up in a forum and asks, "I'm shooting my first wedding next month... what kind of camera and lens do I need?" I've yet to frag anything, unless slicing off a section of GSP mat counts. If I had experience fragging, I'd probably have no need to ask the question. But since I don't, I'm hoping to save myself either the trouble of setting up the 8g and having it not be useful, or not setting it up and wishing I had.

if its not too much trouble make it into a frag tank then. but many of us would convert it into a QT tank.

+1 A frag tank isn't to bad and a QT isn't a bad idea either. It's really up to you, but you might outgrow it pretty fast.
