I had a red one in my office tank but he died . I guess he didnt like the algae in there and the bits of cheato that escaped wasnt good enough for him. I got him from John at reefcleaners.org last summer.

Well, in my defense, it was a LONG day.... but I did hunt him down for a better photo, and it looks like the verdict is that he shall be banished to the sump.

The big question is how to get all of them out?? I think I can get the bigger one, but there is at least one other. What can I do? Lugols? Something else?

Wouldn't that also basically get rid of the digi too? I've heard all kinds of bad (fatal) things about SPS and FW dips.

I've heard mixed things but I was mainly kidding. Usually pisses the sps off, from what I've read, and turns it a bit brown but it colors right back up.

Lots of people seem to use Interceptor to treat their SPS.

To me it looks shrimpish, but now I'm being cautious about anything off of this digi. Speaking of which, when the lights came up, the emerald was chilling in the middle of the colony. Time out for him... into the sump! The frag he was to be cleaning bubble algae from has not been touched... so now it's in the sump with him.

I can't tell what that second thing is.

Ok, cool! He'll go back into the 29 DT, and the crabs will go into the fuge/sump on the 20L. Time to go banish dem crabz.

Yeah...just keep an eye on the shrimp for a while like you did the crabs. If you notice something going awry, yank him out. But I've never seen a bad hitcher that looks like that.

Yeah, I didn't think shrimp tended to be bad, other than mantises, and he didn't quite have a mantis look. If anything, he reminded me more of a small FW ghost shrimp, so the nem shrimp sounds like a good ID! It's also possible that he's been in the tank for a while, and only now was noticed because of his presence on the digi colony while I happened to be inspecting the digi colony.

Could be a mysis? I haven't seen one live in my tank before.

I thought the same thing at first, but the mysis seem to have more color and structure within the tail, which this shrimp lacks. The SW mysis also have longer tails. According to some of what I've read about the nem shrimp, they can typically be found either in nems or frogspawn. I'm wondering if maybe it hitched a ride with the 8 heads of frog I got not too long ago.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that he's not going to do the job I hired him to do. I'd put him in the 20L sump/fuge, but I've heard they can be cheato munchers, and I don't have enough yet for him to munch on without wiping it out. So for now, he's in the 29g sump.


Speaking of which, the skimmer is being broken in again!!!!

Well, I'd be lying if I said it was easy. Then again, once I have the license to go with the degree, I'll be a real liar. Or was that lawyer.... ? Just another month of studying, 3 days of testing, and then waiting, waiting, and more waiting. So far, everything has been falling into place, including a job. Two places are wanting to hire me, and I didn't even have to hunt for a job.... they initiated the offer! I'll probably end up working part time at both places, for a variety of reasons. Now I just need things to fall into place with the vet.... things are still looking up, and each week seems to give some kind of new clue. I had one clue over the weekend, and the promise of another one this week. Time shall tell.

Well, the private firm does have a 4:1 ratio of men to women right now. And the oldest person in the firm is in the mid 30's.



I've been doing my best to avoid the games, and I think she is too. I just think that things working out so well (and so fast) has kind of caught her off guard, and school mid-terms have been dragging on her as well. Once this round of mid-terms end, I think things will become much clearer as to where its all heading.

Any idea what this is growing on the macro?

Looks like Red Graciliara and Red Grape/Botrycladia twined together.

Two for one! I love it! There's even a bit of it growing on the drain cover too. It looks kind of cool.

Looks like the slimer is laying down some base on the plug. And the digitata is hanging in there. Reason to partee!!

Indeed! The slimer had a decent base to begin with, but I'm really happy to see the additional encrusting. I'm guessing that it will be a good indicator of when the slimer will start to branch. Despite the crabs, the digi is really making a comeback. The polyps are starting to show a decent blue, but it will probably be a while before the flesh starts taking on the color. It's looking better than it did at the LFS though.
