From what I've heard, a shot of tequila or whiskey can do the trick. Then again, the tequila suggestion was for those traveling through Europe, so maybe the American remedy is the shot of whiskey.

Feel better soon!

Definitely Jack. There's not even an option there. wink.gif

The best way to drink Jack? Straight from the bottle, while riding a horse through the woods. Those were good days (or at least I thought so then huh.gif ).

Haha yeah it iz.

Sadly, the stomach problems came from something other than the booze. I can still drink Jack, it's just the other stuff that gives me trouble. I used to drink vodka and dr pepper, but I can't drink pop, on account of my stomach. It's largely beer these days, because the beer is a base, which helps the stomach. Drinkin man's Tums. wink.gif

Hmm.....

I gave my skimmer pump an 8 hour vinegar and water bath yesterday, to attempt to cure the excess bulbs and the variance in the level of skim. After that bath, and then an 8 hour FW rinse, there has been no improvement.

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. unsure.gif

Wish I could help you here buddy, I am not familiar with that skimmer.

That said though, after a heavy cleaning like that it would have to break in again methinks.
Militant Jurist
Hmmm.... hadn't thought of that. I suppose I'll just set it on low so that it doesn't continue to overflow the collection cup. I'm thinking of a trip to the LFS today anyways, so perhaps I'll pick up a filter sock for the output of the skimmer to cut down on the bubbles. After about a minute of operation, this puppy can put quite a few bubbles into the DT. sleep.gif

It's the NW 110.

It's the NW 110.

Perhaps the riser tube is set incorrectly?

Sounds like either the water level, the air, or both may be too high
Militant Jurist
I was just starting to wonder about the water level myself. Although, it's been the same water level since day 1.

I had to run to the grocery store, and the LFS happens to be right across the street. I told them about it, and they said there might be a problem with the impeller or the NW. He wants me to bring it in later this week if I don't see improvement. I might try elevating the skimmer though, to see if that makes a difference.
Needreefunds
I thought I read you can adjust for the water level by adjusting the riser tube? huh.gif

or are you saying you don't have enough adjustment as it sits right now?

I think I've got a different model than most of the images. What I can adjust for with the tube is what I consider the level of skim - the bubble level. That's what's not staying consistent. I'm wondering if I physically lift the skimmer, resulting in less water, more bubbles, if it will stop mixing the bubbles into the output water. Maybe?

Ja, perhaps. Give it a try cuz it sure sounds like yur pushin water! tongue.gif
Militant Jurist
Just tried lifting the skimmer AND lowering the water level in that part of the sump, and no luck. I'm becoming more and more convinced that it's something with the pump, at least the part about the variation in water level.

I've got a temporary (or limited) solution to the bubble problem: a new filter sock for the outlet!
Militant Jurist
I may have found the cause of my problems:

Apparently, using a fair amount of an epoxy putty can cause the skimmer to go crazy. And, I just used about a stick of new kind of epoxy putty, when I was adding of the new frags to the tank. Now I just need find out how long it will be going crazy for.
Needreefunds
cool beans. let us know whatcha find out.

That is interesting though, usually when I feed, or dose or even just stick my hands in the tank my skimmers stop producing for awhile.

Then again, this 9002 stops skimming if I fart in the next room..... dry.gif

I've been PMing evil, as he has the same skimmer, and he said it could take a few days to a week before it clears up. I need to toss some carbon in as well, to shorten the time.

Well, I think it's a few days with the skimmer on, and a week with the skimmer off. I hooked up a hose to the drain on the collection cup, so I'm just letting it haul arse outta the tank. I just have to keep topping off the tank. huh.gif

Yeah, that's a good point about the skim. I think this will be it for the top-offs.
