MP20 on Reefcrest 95% power on Standard 29G
Everything in the tank loves the random flow, I also have it set to night mode

Bigben I would do the MP20 you can always dial it down

Ya... MP20 definately not "too much" I run mine about 90% in my Solana(now that my aquascape is in), and thats only because of my fine sand. MP10 would probably be too small for my taste.
good luck, Mike

Definitely go bigger. That way you've got options to upgrade if needed, and to turn it down too. I can't see that you will though, once you get that flow it's hard to let it go away..

Thanks for the replies gang. As is usual in this hobby, my gut instinct was to go bigger. The fact that I could later upgrade it is the tipping point, in case I ever go with a bigger tank.... Not that that ever happens.

I have, it's nice that our MP10's put out more than what is advertised.

Definitely kills some of the doubt for those people who think the MP10 isn't enough flow.

I have an MP10 in my 34g solana, and it gives PLENTY of flow on reef-crest, I dont even have it turned up to its max and it still stirs the sand some. LOVE it!!

its good to know the MP10 has more flow than advertised..i wonder if the mp20 and mp40 are underratetd too, and if so by how much?
why would you underrate the pumps when the higher flow would be a bigger selling point? car manufactures do it too with there hp and tq ratings, sometimes for the insurance companies but i dont know why vortech would...lol just a random though

I now control mine with an AC jr, soon to be replaced by an apex. The long pulse mode needs to be extended IMO. For those that want to simulate laminar flow, the "on" interval needs to be way longer... at least 15 min.

I hadn't seen that, but pretty much confirms what I've speculated since I got my mp10. It's every bit as powerful as an mp20, I'd say.

I love my MP40W! I have it on my 35g (36") tank. Makes the tank really look much more clean (can't even see the wires if you look straight at it).
I also use short pulse at around 75-80% to create some killer waves. Definitely adds to the overall effect (and makes the corals really "pulse"/move), but also makes more noise as water gets dumped over my overflow box.
Here's a youtube video to demonstrate such (the waves are not going at full capacity in this video tho).

While in short pulse, what does saving the setting do?
If I take it out of short pulse and back it isn't saved so what is it actually doing?

When you press the button, you can set the rate/frequency at which it pulses. When you save the setting, you are saving that frequency. After it's saved, when you turn the knob you are adjusting how "hard/water it pushes" during each pulse. Hope that helps.

MP10,reef crest @85%, 20L . Its one of the best investments I"ve made for water movement. Have been thinking about a second one and going wireless as well as getting the rf x-mitter for first one so they can talk. LOVE at first use.

You have it at 85% in a 20! I can't turn mine more than 50 without blowing the softies around so much they'd probly split in an hour.
I love my MP10w!

Mostly lps/sps. I did have to get rid of the sugar sand I had. Sand storm city.

Was having trouble getting my mp10 dialed in with the dimensions of my tank but I think I've got it perfect now. Long Pulse @ 2 sec intervals, max power at 4 or 5 dots, makes a nice swaying motion for softies and lps. Hopefully I'll be able to crank it up a little as everything grows in.

24 GALLON nano cube reef crest mode set at 80%..anything higher and my scoly does not approve...My scoly is my prize possession so I will not take any chances with it...If I go higher then 80% it starts to push in the side of the scoly as if it is deflating on that side with the pressure of the water bouncing off of the glass from the other side of the tank.
