We are just letting you know that we have some Virgin Nerites in stock that originated from a colony that lives in full saltwater. I usually dont mess with Virgin Nerites because they come from brackish water 99% of the time, and don't last long in saltwater, but these guys are good to go. They are not on our site yet, allowing NRs pico members to get first dibs by posting here in the next 24 hours, and I will save some to cover demand. A specialty snail for a specialty site I figure.

They will be going for $1 each, which makes them cost ineffective, (they are only about 1/8'' in diameter), but that is a pretty good price on them. We will certainly be counting them ReefCleaners.org style, so you can expect some hookup.

(discounts allowed as long as the thread in the sponsor section gets its weekly bump...smile.gif )

Will have a picture up in a minute. The thing that makes these snails special and sought after is the beautiful designs on the shell. It is said no 2 are alike, and I have certainly never seen an identical shell.

They eat diatoms, cyano, film algae, some short green turf algae, some hair algae and are rumored to eat "green cyano". A good subject for macro photography, lets see how bad I do...going to take picture now....

I looked up some pics with google. They do look pretty damn sweet. I would definitely get a few if I wasn't already stocked up with snails.

Will they reproduce in your tank?

I'd definitely like to get about 25 of those (in addition to some other new crew members!).

If I get some of these guys am I going to find them with my bare feet on the floor at night like I do with my checkerboard pattern kind of nerites? Or do they stay in the water a little better?

they stay in the water better, is your checkered nerite a tesselated nerite? I like the black ones, (antillean) they stay in the water, but come up to the surface. They try to escape the first day but that is about it, they settle. Keep them in standard open top 20 gallon tanks... The virgin nerites are also in an open top tank and they stay in.

Nerites generally dont reproduce because of extended planktonic stages.

I will have that picture up! smile.gif I got the picture, got the camera working again and now the computer doesnt recognize it....aargh...me and pics dont mix well, but I am going to get one. smile.gif

Nerites are awesome snails.
They eat what John said,
are hardy and are eating machines.

they come in colors too, but that is a pretty fair representation.

Hey John! As soon as I saw that you had these, I had to put in an order...the pictures are nice, but do not do justice to these little jewels! Can't wait for them to get here next week.
johnmaloney
thanks! let me know how they fare.
cptbjorn
Got mine today, the smallest is 1/8" and the biggest is probably 1/4" so a little bigger than I thought they would be which is perfect. Most of them ran away before I had time to take a pic (these are probably the quickest snails I've encountered) but here's the biggest group I could find:

Thanks John and I've got a little something going in the mail for you today smile.gif
