I must have missed this one. I have to say that the 12 for $99 deal with Pacific East is a great deal, if anyone thinks about ordering from them. It has been a long time so pics would be pointless, especially since they have grown so much in the past year that everything has been fragged but I ended up with green with pink polyp poci, pink birds nest, dragon eyes zoas, bonsai acro, blueberry acro and pink stylo, amoung other things, and there was no real adjustment time in my tank. Everything opened and all have grown like crazy and are definitely worth it. Just wanted to share as I have ordered form other sites but never had any corals as healthy as Pacific East.

Good spot Weeber. Sad too. Looks like you got some decent frags otherwise, including a nice lokani and a sunset monti, but red bugs? Yeesh.

Aug 18 2009, 10:00 AM
is that bad and if so should I contact yourreef.com because they do look like orange bugs and they were there from the start.
r20crazy
Aug 18 2009, 10:18 AM
yes its bad. you need to find yourself some intecept0r [dog heartworm medication, which is perscription only] and treat the ENTIRE tank now. you will also want to remove any hermits, shrimp as they will all die during treatment (including your entire pod population)
this item should not have gone in your system. do a search for redbugs for more information

r20crazy
Aug 18 2009, 10:23 AM
taking the frag out will help, but there is a 99% chance that they have already spread throughout the tank. any sps you have can, and most likely will, get them without treatment
twister23
Aug 18 2009, 10:29 AM
so what should i do? I have an empty bc 14 with just live rock I can treat the acro frags in.
I don't know how yourreef did not notice this in their frag tanks when they sent them to me.

It is almost impossible for a seller with that much livestock to not have some redbugs. With the turn over and amount of corals in and out of their system there is always possibilites for pests. Its up to you to examine, dip and quarintine all new stuff. I learned the hard way too and saw these little red dots moving all over my acros one day. I use Coral Revive bath for all sps before in goes in my display tank. I have killed red bugs with this stuff too. But this is prior to putting them in the tank. Coral Revive is not for in tank treatment, just a dip.
Good Luck! Lesson Learned.

Aug 18 2009, 10:47 AM
should I buy some coral revive and dip the frags?
smarsh
Aug 18 2009, 10:56 AM
That dip is usually for dipping new stuff prior to putting in tank. The bugs are in your tank now. So I suggest refering to the Interceptor method and treating the tank.

I don't agree i have done a lot of reading on the matter and if you catch it early with in a week or two the red bug don't seem to spread. i would take out the effective coloines and dip them in revive and i am going to have a little talk with brandon the guy who bagged and shipped those frags toyou because allf rags from them SHOULD of been dipped already. I am sorry about the red bug problem here fallow this thread iwrote a couple months back and you hopefully you will be rid of your problem. I have used interceptor in the past it works but it is for major infestations and coloines that are fully encrusted and glued down
http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...p;hl=scottyreefps dont let all these people stress you out redbugs arn't really that bad at least its not acro eating flatworms or monti eating nudibranchs those are really bad
weeber
Aug 18 2009, 11:37 AM
also if u want to use a natural remedy to ur problem if u dont want to use interceptor but this only works if u have a small amount is ive heard dragonface pipefish munch on red bugs along with some other fish so if ur up to the challenge of keeping a pipefish u can use that way but those fish r better if u just want to make sure u dont get them again cause they wont seek and destroy every red bug in the tank if u have a whole bunch they think of red bugs as more of a snack.

good luck.

Thanks for the info scotty. I was one of those who read that they were all over once you had them. But I can say that after dipping my corals in revive, The little red buggers were all dead in the dip bucket. That stuff is awesome!

Hi,
Sorry to here that two of the frags had Red Bugs. They come in on wild colonies a lot and some of the frags came out of our wild coral tanks. The other frags came from our display tanks which are free of red bugs. Anyway, they are easy to eliminate. here is some good info.
http://www.melevsreef.com/redbugs.htmlRed bugs used to scare people but now most experienced reefers no longer worry about them unless a coral is covered. In that case the coral will become stressed out and may stop extending polyp's to feed. That's the point where most people will treat for them. Still others never worry about them as red bugs do not eat Acropora the way Acropora Eating Flat worms do. Some people even believe they may keep acros safe from such harmful parasites. Either way I do my best to keep them out of my personal tanks. Here in the store we have treated all our display tanks and farming tanks and are 100% red bug free. However the tanks where the wild corals are only treated occasionaly.
7 or 8 years ago, when the Red Bug scare first hit the internet I discovered the Acro's in my home tank were invested with them. I quickly treated the tank with interceptor and expected to have my corals color and growth improve. However it ended up not changing a thing. The tank had looked nice with the red bugs and without. These days I only worry about keeping my tanks free of them because some people still spread rumors that they will eat and kill your acros. Again, most reefers who have been doing this a long time consider them an eye sore, a minor irritant and only treat them when they hit plague proportions.
Anyway, If I remeber right we sent you a few extra corals. If you want you can dip those frags or toss them if you like. Either way I will still offer a discount next time or send you a couple free frags on your next order. I am also going to treat the wild system right now and follow up with two more treatment to ensure the eggs have time to hatch and get killed as well. If I can help in any other way please let me know.
