Alright folks So after holding off on my own tank thread I've think I'm finally ready to take the plunge. Lets see I started with a 20 Gallon about 2 years ago and a few months later upgraded to a 29 gallon, after learning more about the hobby and what I wanted for my tank I decided to upgrade to a 40 breeder. heres a pic of the 29 before I took it down. 36" Nova Extreme Pro with stock bulbs

DIY screen top (thanks plainrt!)

and 85-100lbs Live rock

also have 2 koralia 1's and a maxijet 900 for circulation

1 powder blue tang! (relax everyone I have a 125 that I will be putting him in shortly)

I like it! I would look into stepping up to something like an MP10 or MP20 for flow, but that's just me. I have two k1's in my 20 and I kind of feel like it's insufficient.

Wow awesome looking scape, I love the clams!, the hawkfish is great too

Like I stated before, temporary, just want to get him eating (without competition) and a bit plump before I make the switch.

Did I say two koralia 1's? If I did I lied. I meant two K2's, and I agree not as strong as I like so I wedged a maxijet in between the rock work so you cant really see it but that helps a lot.

how does that work exactly? do i have to pay to get in? And how much cheaper would you say the prices are for frags?

You have to call to register.Its 8 bucks if pre register.and over 16 if not.Prices are very cheap.I always load up on stuff at swaps.At the mars swap i got alot of zoa and lps frags for like 5 bucks.

AHH hard lesson learned yesterday! The importance of utilizing a quarantine tank! powder blue has got crazy ick and now the hawk and blackcap have a little ick as well! needless to say I have them in my QT now.

about time got pics up.Looking good.I see you got the sps bug going on.....

had enough of this f'in algae. hair algae on steroids and some gelidium. phosphates nitrates etc all in ideal range. but cuc was very nonexistent as they knocked over frags so... bought a sea hare (dolabella) today and some turbos to bulldoze that algae. Also bought some chaeto and plan on setting up an ac70 and using it as a fuge/filter.


f'in algae i hate you.

I never had any algae at all in the breeder and next to nothing in my cube lol.Knock on wood.Oh and i need to replace my cuc as my pistol has taken it all out for most part again.Next time i rip all my rock out to catch him im buying a 40b and switching tanks also i think.

just a lil update!
Algae problem is pretty much under control!

What I think caused it : addition of powder blue for training to feed purposes before I put him in the 125 caused me to feed strips of seaweed. A lot of the seaweed however went uneaten and floated around the tank, I never really saw it as I was always away but I think that added to extra nutrients etc for algae to flourish.

What I think fixed it :
bumped up cuc (4turbo snails mainly, few margaritas and few astrea snails)
added a AC70 and did a diy refugium mod (chaeto for nutrient control)
and I kept manually picking it off as well.

What used to be every three days has now become once every 3 weeks as far as picking it off. So with that being said I think i'm winning this war!

I just replaced my cheap hob filter with a ac70, that I`m turning into a little refug..

Did you anything to slow down the flow? I pretty much just placed the mesh over the opening to stop the chaeto from flowing out.

I actually did the same thing with the mesh. I didn't mess with the flow at all either, I know your supposed to keep chaeto "rolling" (for light dispersement throughout) so I didn't do anything to alter it the only thing I did different really was cut that filter sponge in half, place on the bottom, stack a thing of phosban on it then a big clump of chaeto. So far its really worked out nice for me.

Ya i put some chaeto, a heater and a sub. light in the tank.... I also have a filter holder form another hob filter that I've modified to fight inside the filter.. I fill it up with filter floss, and carbon whenever needed.

I just order some rics and 2 zoas to put into the tank, I`ll try throwing up some pics after their settled... If you ever end up throwing out any frags for overcrowding or sell any hit me up. The tanks cycled now and I`m starting to fill it up.

I actually hafta get rid of some stuff as my sandbed is a lil too overcrowded right now. What kind of light do you have on your tank?

Thanks jason, it kinda makes me sad when I look at my tank and I have all this "high tech" forms of filtration and what not and with hers I literally use water from the sink and just weekly water changes.

I like the aquascaping on that smaller tank. Dig the tunnel on the right side.

Do you have any excess algae problems using tap water?

I've only got 2x24 t5 lights at the moment...

nope not at all. it makes me pretty jealous because knock on wood there has never been any algae problem. had a flatworm problem but that was resolved.
What color ricordea did you get? I have a few rics I could let go. lmk how your new stuff does before you think about getting anything else.

eh I will take some soon I guess. I moved everything around and still not happy with it but I can snap some prob later tonight or tomorrow.

alright guys, I STILL need to do a few small changes and most likely thin out some of the frags I have laying around but here is a updated fts as of now.



oh and I ordered a few sps frags from Calvin415 and very pleased with everything. can't wait for them to grow out!

looks to be doing great.I think you need some purple anthelia.I saved you a chunk lol.

lol umm....actually the rock that I scraped it all off has a bunch of little baby stalks popping out, I may need to use joes juice or something as anthelia is the new aiptasia.
