Current FTS:

Well I think it is about time for me to start a thread for my coldwater tank. Well the tank is a 15g glass, chilled by a via aqua chiller. I plan on keeping the temp around 55 or lower, and the stock will some from the Puget Sound, and later on a pair of Catalina gobies from the interwebz. I will be leaving on vacation to my cabin on Shaw Island and I will be bringing back goodies to fill this tank up. Rock and all (haha no 3 month cycle for me wink.gif)

Anyway, here are some pics to start this thing off right.

Jacobnano
Heres what the tank looks like in my room. I know everyone is jealous of my room tongue.gif

All funded by me and my lawn mowing, heck yes.
davidr2340
Looks amazing bro!!! ohmy.gif
Will be fun to watch. Even more so with stuff stocked from the area!!! cool.gif
When I was young, we had a cabin on Blakely Island!!!

Keep mowin' dem lawns bro!!! biggrin.gif
Jacobnano
Thanks man!

Yea I have a ton of money during the summer but when "mowing season" season is over my only money comes from random jobs and my birthday/christmas. So I gotta make money now. Ya its gonna be sweeeet when I get it stocked. I am gonna sit out in the rowboat at night with a flashlight...waiting. The dogfish (sharks) are kinda creepy at night because it seems like every time I am up there one bumps my hand lol.

Oh and the reason I will be sitting out at night is because the lights attract little inverts and then the fish I want (Spiny Lumpsucker) comes over to munch on them, then I net them!

Edit: Really? Cool. Its really fun up in the sound isn't it?
MGDMIRAGE
Ahh to be young and have no bills yet! Looking forward to this jacob smile.gif Lookin' good.
Jacobnano
Thanks man!

Haha I know, I love it. I think the best time to be in this hobby is when you are young. Basically all of my money goes into my tank.

My thread is washingtonians only haha.
MGDMIRAGE
we gotta stick together!
davidr2340
I just sold my Acan colony to a couple from Spokane!!!
Jacobnano
Yup, fo sho.

Living here makes setting up a CW tank soo much easier.

Ya I saw your post on RF. Nice people you said. Is the person you sold it to a member on here also?

Yep cool peeps, his tanks are great i've gotten a few things from him. I want to go see his new 200 gallon soon.

Sorry Jacob your thread has been hijacked! j/k 15 gallon is an awesome size!

Oh and i had a cold water tank with puget sound animals about 17 years ago lol. It was a 2 gallon bowl, i had some hermits and some little fish that almost looked like a scooter blenny. I had it going for about a year or so with nothing but a sponge filter and air pump, no chiller, but back then i didn't know any better. I only knew enough to mix the instant ocean biggrin.gif
Jacobnano
Haha the little blenny looking thing was probably a bull head (sculpin kinda thing). And they can live in temps over 80 degrees. The tidepools they hang out in get sooo hot. I have been going up there and flipping over rocks since I was a year old, really fun.

Ehh its fine. I kinda hijacked davids thread lol. Time to get yours mwuhaha

David, Eric emailed you if you didn't know.

I've abandoned my thread until my tank looks perfect biggrin.gif. You are probably right on the bullhead, it's been soo long since i lived over there i forgot what the tidepool creatures looked like.
Jacobnano
You should go back its really fun. And I revived your threads haha.

I noticed tongue.gif

I do miss Seattle sometimes, mostly the being close to the ocean, not so much the people and traffic tongue.gif
Jacobnano
Ya I live in Yakima, a very crappy town. Seattle has too many people I agree. I am not a big fan of highly populated areas smile.gif
Markushka
Im gonna be watching this thread, can't wait to see how it turn out.
Jacobnano
Cool thanks. I am hoping it will be good fingersx01.gif
Nanobuds
i likey ur tank and room sleep.gif
Jacobnano
Thanks nanobuds, I like it too. You should post pics of yours in your thread smile.gif
Nanobuds
done
Jacobnano
I commented. All of the adults call my room the bachelor pad lol.
Jacobnano
Yes over 3,000 posts. I am awesome. I am surprised no one with a coldwater tank has commented yet *cough Lani cough*
Jacobnano
I forgot to add that in the first pics there aren't any holes drilled in the plastic below the grates. Well the flow was high that was coming from the pump than what was going over the overflow. So I drilled some holes and now my tank won't flood my room.

Also, I am really impressed with the chiller, it can chill my water below 55 and my tank doesn't have and sand rock or other forms of insulation. Thanks Rehype for the chiller!
cptbjorn
You should have seen greenlake when it hit 100 omgomgomg.gif Also I've seen the "Entering Seattle" sign on I5 vandalized with "NO VACANCY" a couple times now lol. But seriously I'm ready for that huge earthquake right about now to cull the herd a little tongue.gif

Nice tank looking forward to seeing what you find to stock it. I say go out there with an underwater flashlight, a snorkel and a wetsuit at like midnight, rowboats are for pansies smile.gif
Jacobnano
Haha its cold, don't get me wrong it would be awesome. I want to swim with my shark friends that seem to love me.

We will see...

I used to swim in greenlake all the time back in the day sad.gif Most disgusting lake i remember from that side was lake Cassidy<sp>. kinda random and off topic but hey....
cptbjorn
The water in greenlake isn't all that bad, I don't really mind swimming in it but I'm not so sure about all the dudes fishing it. Plus I have a brown tinted pair of sunglasses that turn its slight green tinge into an awesome caribbean blue cool.gif The issue is you can barely see the water through all the people in and around it.

Nastiest lakes I know of are Lake Wilderness and Pipe Lake near my parents house in Maple Valley. Wilderness is snaily and slimy and one summer I was at my buddies house on Pipe Lake almost every day and then they found a 3 month old body in there at the end of the summer eek3.gif. good times.
Jacobnano
Haha nasty.

And thats creepy about the body.
MGDMIRAGE
Ohhh yummy!
Lalani
Want this moved to the biotopes forum?
Jacobnano
Ehh I am good. It will be my Aquarium so members aquariums is fine with me.

I thought you were gonna comment, but no just doing your moderating job sad.gif
Lalani
Nice water.
Jacobnano
Haha thanks.

When I get this thing stocked everyone (Except maybe Jamie) will be jealous haha
Psychosis
I won't be.

All your livestock are belong to me.

Haha!

God my tank is depressing me so much lately.

I think I might just grow 'shrooms and leave it be.
Jacobnano
Haha get a saltwater tank and it will make you feel better.

"all your livestock are belong to me" hilarious haha

You tank will get better I am sure of it wink.gif
Jacobnano
Well leaving tomorrow for my cabin, hopefully gonna get some good stuff! Wish me luck!
hlander
Good Luck cant wait to see what you catch!
Jacobnano
I am back!

I will type up a full list of what happened and what I have when I upload pics wink.gif
hlander
Hurry! laugh.gif
Jacobnano
Haha waiting for the water to clear up. Just so no one gets their hopes up, I only have one little fish, I plan on getting a pair of catalina gobies, and a surf perch (if I can find one). Also, didn't want to overstock my tank just yet, I want it to stabilize first.
peewee1467
lets here your story =D
hlander
Did you catch a spiny lumpsucker?
nebthet
I am so glad you have this up now... now get some pics up and let us know what you caught!! LOL
Jacobnano
Nope didn't see one. My dads only ever caught one (hasn't tried a ton of times) but hes been going there for over 50 years lol.

I did get a sucker fish though if that counts smile.gif

The pics are uploading right now by the way. And now its "story" time...

It was a really fun trip, just thought I would share that right off the bat. The set-up I had up there (for holding all of the stuff I found) was a ten gallon with no filter no light, nothin. I did water changes about ever hour (The cabin is literally right on the water) to keep the temp down and keep toxic stuff from building up. It had been going good for a while, then one day I caught a ton of bull heads. They were all under an inch long but still waaaay too many for the little ten gallon to handle. I hoped it might now happen but during the night (I am asleep so I can't do water changes etc.) I basically had a tank crash. I lost all of my bull heads, my cool yellow sucker fish (my living one is brownish) and a bunch of other really awesome stuff, which included my uber awesome blue porcelain crab and all of my other porcelain crabs (red) which was a bummer. I also lost one of my opalescent nudis (look em up they are effing awesome). I still have one of them left because I miraculously found two. I also found two other cool nudis (one was dead and one was on its way to death when I found it, just to make myself clear) they had been beaten up a bit by waves but the rare one was called a hooded nudibranch (they are on of the only swimming nudis there are, LOOK THEM UP) and this other white and orange one of which the name escapes me. There is also some other cool things that I will describe (by request haha;)) in the pics to come.

As for other happenings, we checked out some old abandoned house (Bill Gates senior keeps buying out all of the land around our cabin and just leaves it lol) that had been taken over by otters. Drove the boat around, caught a ton of fish (probably over 30) which was fun, fed the eagles, flipped over rocks finding stuff etc.

I feel I should add more but whatever, the pics are almost finished.
