Hello everyone,

On behalf of the Cincinnati Reefkeepers Society,
I am happy to invite everyone at Nano-Reef to our 2009 Frag Swap!

Date:
Saturday, October 10, 2009

Time:
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Location:
The Underground
1140 Smiley Ave
Cincinnati, OH 45240
(513) 221-4888

Admission:
Admission is just $5 for hobbyists and $15 for hobbyists with more than 25 items. Families of two adults plus children are just $10. Or, reserve one of our new larger spots for $15 for a prime location at the trading tables! Send a PM to Drimo at cincyreef.com to reserve a prime location at the trading tables.

Featuring:

The Newport Aquarium's Mobile Shark Tank!

For the first time, The Newport Aquarium will be at the Cincy Reef Frag Swap. Come talk with the wonderful marine biologists from the aquarium and see their shark!

Also, the best local vendors will be here to sell you quality frags, equipment, invertebrates and more!

Stay around all day for our awesome raffle at the conclusion of the swap; featuring items from our club sponsors and other industry-leading vendors and manufacturers.

Most importantly, and best of all, lots of hobbyists from all around will be here to buy, sell, and trade with you coral frags propagated in their own tanks! Even fish, invertebrates, equipment, and more will show up!

If you're in the area (or otherwise), it's well worth a drive. This is a great event all about a lot of reef-loving aquarists getting together to support eachother... so you'll find great deals from great people. It is also, perhaps, the BEST enviornment to learn about the hobby. It's lot's of fun! You'll be sure to leave smiling and with a cooler full of frags!

Be sure to bring your coral to trade!!!

Awesome Can't wait. So for someone coming 2 hours away what would you suggest we bring with us to transport frags back home? Cooler? Ice packs?Heat Packs?

aquaman7
I would say a styrofoam cooler or, better yet, a Playmate picnic cooler (or something like that) should provide enough insulation to keep everything at a decent temperature. It's always hard to judge Cincinnati weather in early October... some days are freezing and others can feel like the middle summer. I've used the same Playmate-brand cooler every swap and it insulates VERY well. I've never had to use a heat or cool pack. Most people bring the cheap styrofoam coolers that always seem to work well too.

I'm glad you're coming... spread the word!

Very nice, I just might have to make the drive there....
aquaman7
It will be worth the drive... we are really working hard to make this our best swap ever. Where are you coming from twelve volt pro?
Lawnman
I will spread the word. Also bringing my buddy as well.We will be buying. Not much to trade yet.

Coming from Fort Wayne, IN. Just a jump on the old toll road and a straight shot more or less. I did forget that its the same weekend we are planning on being at Cedar Point for our wedding anniversary, so I dunno how feasible its going to be to make it there. Time will tell I suppose.
ohio reefer
i will be there for sure.

can't wait

I am marking my calendar......I am new to Nano reefing and have no frags to swap mellow.gif
I live across the river from good ole Rabbit Hash, KY. I will really have to save $$$$$$ for the swap because 2 weeks after I go to Wiener Dog Fest in NYC if I can afford the airfare out of CVG.

<*()=;======;=)~~~
aquaman7
I hope you guys can make it. Good ol' Rabbit Hash smile.gif.

There will be lots of vendors there with PLENTY of coral... not to mention all of the hobbbyists bringing lots of thier own stuff. This is probably the best place to buy a bunch of frags to fill a new tank... it's what I did several years ago to fill mine. Unfortunately I'm in the market for lots of frags as well... we moved in January and my tank apparently didn't handle it too well and all but totally crashed about a month after I set it up at the new house. Then, just 2 weeks ago, my heater malfunctioned and brought my tank up to 90. I'm not sure for how long it was that high, as I was hardly home the week it happened, but it was long enough to kill most of the few recovering corals I had left. So I'm itchin' for frags too!

Thanks for spreading the word... we're advertising this earlier than ever and working hard to make this swap our best yet.

Feel free to drive on over! ...I guess Washington is a bit far laugh.gif.

If you're coming, be sure to sign up on Fragswapper http://www.fragswapper.com and visit our "Frag Swap Chat" forum on the Cincy Reef forums http://www.cinyreef.com.

This is going to be a great event everyone! We will have...
10 vendors with awesome coral, drygoods, equipment, inverts and more...
Several awesome raffles and silent auctions throughout the day...
A grand raffle at the conclusion of the swap...
Bags loaded with product literature sent in from industry leaders...
Biologists and sharks from the Newport Aquarium (I know some Nano-Reef folks want to pet a shark!)...
AND, as aforementioned, lots of "Salt Creeps" to share heroic aquaria tales and swap frags with!

I hope to see some of you there!
Lawnman
How many people you think will be there selling frags?
aquaman7
7 of our vendors will be selling frags and most of the hobbyists there will have frags to sell or trade... we're hoping to have several hundred people come throughout the day. We're working to make this our best swap yet so hopefully lots of people will come! There are just 7 days to go!!!
Lawnman
The frag swap was off the hook. I really enjoyed it and dumped a fair share of coin LOL. Your society puts on a great swap. Me and my buddy will be back every year. The raffle was AWESOME I won 3 times got a bunch of Chemipure and chemipure elite. The silent auction was cool to but was talking to a few others and it was really messed up on how you did it. A true silent auction has a box in front of it like you had for the raffle and you put the amount on a little piece of paper and put it in the box so no one knows what you bid. I noticed at 1:58 alot of people just walked up and raised there price 1 dollar to win. I think doing it in a closed box would make your society alot more money. Not complaining just giving advise. The vendors just about give the stuff away at the last minute. I got a lot of acans, zoas, rics, yuma and one bad to the bone mini carpet anenome.
happyfishman
That sounds like a great event! I hope it all went well.
Looking forward to another like it.
Cheers
aquaman7
Thanks Lawnman! The silent raffle box like you suggested has been mentioned before to the frag swap commitee and very well may be employed in the future... regardless the silent auction (which really was run in more of a bid n' buy format) was a big success and will definitely happen again! I'm glad you had a great time... I REALLY did too!

Please spread the word about our swap! We would really like the number of attendees to continue to grow... because a swap is really not much of a swap if there aren't great hobbyists like all of you who came! This was, by far, our best swap yet. We had some new ideas that worked out very well and can be fine-tuned and enhanced. We expect our annual swap to keep getting even better in the future.

Maybe (Lord-willing) we will be able to host MACNA here in Cincinnati in the near future.

Anthony Calfo will be speaking at our January Meeting at the same location as our swap! Check our website (http://www.cincyreef.com) for updates and more information.
