Hey InTank,

I am wondering whether any of your customers have used an InTank Media Basket in conjunction with a JBJ Nano Glo? The Nano Glow measures 3.25” x 0.75”x 5” , which would seem like just the right size.

I am specifically interested in growing chaeto in the second compartment of an AP24 basket, stacked as follows:

floss
chaeto
media

So the question becomes, will the JBJ Nano Glo magnet hold through the acrylic basket wall and the AP 24 glass? (This presumes that the AP 24 media basket is wide enough that it would rest against the rear wall.) Or, alternatively, could the Glo magnet fit between the basket and the wall (the magnet is .75" thick)? And, are the eggcrate shelves removable so that the magnet may be installed in the second shelf (i.e. below the first shelf)?

Here's the link on the Nano Glo:

Thanks!

I don't know if anyone is using this with my products, it is a pretty new light on the market.

What is the width of the rear molding around the tank? If it is 3/4" then the magnet will fit. The rack has to make it through that gap but then is less wide then the entire chamber. You could also remove the sliding door for a guaranteed fit, but then you lose the water forcing effect. I have my AP24 in a box so it isn't convenient to measure right now. From pictures it looks pretty thick.

The egg crate is welded to the acrylic but you could pop them off if you want. It may leave behind some material so do it with care.

You could also just use one or two of my submersible lights and call it a day. Much cheaper and brighter then only 4 LEDs. No need to worry about fit or removing the rear vinyl.

Thanks for the timely reply. A couple of follow ups:

That makes sense.

I'm lost here. Where is the sliding door? And is this how you place items on the various racks if the egg crate doesn't come out?

Thanks, I'll consider this.

Many thanks for your time!

One side of the rack has a sliding thin clear piece of plastic. This is how you access the second and third shelf. It then closes in the rack and forces water through the media instead of it just soaking in the water.

If you didn't use this piece then the magnet would fit 100%

Thank you, Stevie. This is very helpful. I hope to place an order with you soon.

or you could ditch the stock magnet and get a thinner magnet coated in epoxy. There is a thread here that shows where to purchase. They are very cheap let me know if you want me to find it. Tunze magnets would also work/fit.

For anyone interested who might find this thread, the Nano Glo Magnet is strong enough to hold the Nano Glo in place through an inTank Media Basket and through the glass of an Aquapod 24. The size of the Nano Glo works better with some of the Media Basket chambers than others, but generally they are compatible equipment.

Thanks for the review, very good to know!

I've got a JBJ Glo and I'm leaning toward upgrading to a Cadlights 22g. The basket doesn't look fully enclosed from the pictures. I assume the only issue would be adding/removing the magnet if you are going to use the middle or bottom chamber for chaeto.

Yes, that may be a problem as that rack once in the tank uses the false wall and rear wall to box it in nice and tight. You could put the light in the middle or bottom shelf, put the rack in then use the rear magnet to find the light, it should snap it to the wall with the power of the magnets. I can see that working well.

Or you can use an underwater light that I sell on the site, more than half the cost.
